Just received my SW-Motech ALU-RACK from TwistedThrottle

The SW-Motech ALU-RACK just showed up today from TwistedThrottle. Also, 2 weeks ago was surfing E-bay under SW-Motech and ran into an auction that was for a quick-release soft luggage plate. (SW-Motech calls it a RACK EXTENSION plate)

The fit and finish of the SW-Motech stuff is perfect. I also really like how well the ALU-RACK itself looks without anything attached to it. The metal 919 grab bar hole covers are also a real nice touch I wasn't expecting.

Either way ---- combining the ALU-RACK, with some Wolfman stuff....looks like I have quite an expandable system. All of which quick releases...... and comes off in a matter of minutes, ready to hit the twisties....

Looks like a well build kit that also looks OK naked.

PS - there is a bit of rubber missing from your tyre!

Shots with Both begs.....Wolftail and the Beta bag....

Doesn't look like it..... but theres a good inch of clearance between the Beta bag and the exhaust........ the bag also has a cross strap that you can tighten to pull the mini-saddle bags up and away from the sides if need be..... its a very configurable bag.

I have that exact same rack on my 9er with a Shad SH40 case, absolutely love it. SW Motech makes some good stuff...

Nice touring set up. I like it. However, I am wondering how tough it would be to get a leg over the seat to get on the bike! I'm kinda picturing some kind of side kick over the seat from a few feet away from the bike and then a side hop to grab the bars and to get the extended leg over the other side.

Seriously though, can you get on it ok?

Yeah....its a little rough.... but very doable. The whole intention is to sport-tour several hours to the twisties.... off it comes... and back to light weight mode. (I'm even thinking about some 25mm handlebar risers that can quickly unbolt along with a small spoiler attached to my Honda FlyScreen) Yep.......The BETA bag is definitely not an everyday bag......

During the summer though --- I'll probably keep the tail pack and tank bag mounted just to look more like 'Grandpa on his way to work....'

Great lookin' sport-touring setup. Look forward to hearing how quickly the luggage and other touring mods swap back and forth, how waterproof it is, how easy to use on the road, etc.

Time will tell.........

..... I have a dual-roll design plan...... someday, I plan to have a DR650 Dualsport with some 50/50's & a large touring tank. Everything that I buy for the 9'er, I'm making sure will be a direct swap over. (luggage....windshields....etc....)

Nice. I have a DR650 now, and have been prepping it to ride to AK this summer, I'm hoping. I've been working on luggage--found a hideous yellow used Wolfman drybag duffle bag (from someone on ADVrider) for up top, have a Giant Loop tank bag, and Dirtbagz saddlebags.

The IMS 5-gallon touring tank and the Corbin or Sargent touring saddle are a must for anything over day rides on the DR650, IMO. Shinko 705 tires have been good cheap 50-50 tires for me, too.

I have the Dirtbagz duffle, too, but found it not waterproof enough when it's pouring (why I got the Wolfman bag); the Dirtbagz side bags I'm keeping, but they are going to need trash bag liners for wet rides, too.

Coupla pics of the DR650 with the Dirtbagz setup:

I like it. Wanted to get one before my Ventura but had never heard of one outside of the Twisted Throttle website. I also like the Krauser stuff they have on there but also passed on it due to no feedback as well; whereas lots of others had recieved & reviewed the Ventura stuff.

yeah --- the Ventura stuff is all over the place..... so far, I've owned their racks on 2 of my bikes. After years of use, I couldn't complain.
