Just got a 919... North Jersey

I just picked up a 2003 (~9,500 miles) on Friday and it's been a blast so far. I've read the forums and I'm changing the oil and cleaning/lubing the chain this week. Is there anything else I should look into doing? I'm debating on whether or not I should let the dealership give it a once-over... thoughts?

Well, maybe I'll post some pics next weekend after I clean it up a little. I'm definitely hooked, though. Kinda hard not to be after revving the engine a little. If you are from the North Jersey area and go for rides, send me a PM as I'm always up for a nice ride.

Congrats on your bike JGotts. At 9500 miles shouldnt be too much. You could run through the 8K maintenance checks from the manual, which includes checking all the controls, brakes, etc., unless you know the previous owner did it. If nothing else it will get you familiar with the bike. Good luck and ride safe!

Congrats on your new bike. Be sure to read our 919 Helpful Topics. Pay special attention to Heads UP - Loctite the bar end screws and shift lever bolt. They have been know to vibrate loose.

Welcome aboard.

Barend screws...

Yeah, I found out the hardway that the barend screws vibrate loose. I have barend mirrors that simply attach to the vibration dampeners and the left one came loose. Talk about a useless mirror at that point...

I changed the spark plugs on my at 8000 miles. They were pretty black. I would at least inspect your plugs and then replace them if they are questionable.

From your description; if you have bar end mirrors that attach to to Honda anti-vibe assembly they will always be useless.

Ride...

Very cool. I'll be away that weekend but I'm open to random rides... I'm actually in Wharton so I'm very close.

For now I put the stock mirrors back on. What a difference compared to the small ones attached to the vibration barends. This weekend I'll change the oil and clean the chain. Thanks for the heads up on the plugs - I'll check those while I'm doing everything else. I think the next investment will be a Givi shield. I want something that looks sharp but also blocks the wind.
