Is any one year 9'er better than the others

Now that I have actually started looking at bikes with the intent to buy them. Is the any big change from one year to another that makes the bike any better? I cant seem to find much info on this other than the change in paint colors which isnt an issue. Besides everyone knows black bikes are always faster

Nothing changed from 2002 - 2003.

The 2004s rolled out with adjustable suspension, chrome gauge bezels, and the stator cover, valve cover, and clutch cover were painted black.

Nothing changed from 2004 - 2007. Discontinued after that.

Obviously the paint colors changed within then no change years.

Black valve covers and stator covers didn't happen until 05, 04's did get a second trip odometer and a clock.

Just so you know we are slowly revising the Helpful Topics, so from time to time things may change/not work, etc. Evolution at it's finest.

BTW, 2002 was the fastest.

Here we go again...

EVERYBODY knows the Flat black '03s are fastest

If Kawasaki hadn't already trademarked the name, HondaJim should swap out the 919 on the tail for a Ninja sticker. Stock pipes, flat black bike, all black gear, black helmet. He passed me last year and all I heard was a rushing wind sound. Never saw a thing.

Bah, the black 02's are the original, and still the best! You all with your post 04's have things too soft with your extra trip odo and clock! Real men just strap an old wristwatch around the front brake master and go for it! plus, if you're looking to buy a 919 now, its better to buy an older version and buy the 04-07 front forks separately or just get the F4I setup...cheaper that way!

Well, fire the engines! Spur this iron space-pony on!

I think somebody has bike envy! Or perhaps, they just can't handle a faster color? ( ?)

I had been looking at the older ones and plan on swaping a set of inverted forks anyway so the adj. suspension in 04 isnt worth paying more for. looks like ill be in the market for an 03 flat back since the changes are so minimal and that year/color is fastest

04's definetly did NOT come with black stator valve and clutch cover... i have a 2004 919.

Btw.... 04 Silver 919's with the areodynamic dent in the right side tank are the fastest. The previous owner put the dent mod in the right side tank at a stop sign within the 3600mi he had it.... i swear that mod alone added 10more mph on the top speed.

And its ONLY the right side dent that makes it faster.... if you have left or both its slower

If one does not want to spend a cent past the price of the bike, I'd go for a 04 or later.
The earlier rear shocks had insanely stiff springs. The fronts always were, and stayed, soft, but the bike is more than just rideable with them. If you can find a real cheap 02 or 03, then do yourself a favour and buy a used rear shock from a 04 or later bike. You can buy such shocks for around $ 50 and an aftermarket spring with custom adaptor will be 3 X that amount or more.

Yeah. I posted some year-off info. Sorry about that guys.

And no, I don't have bike envy. At least not for another 919. I'd love to have a 2007+ 600RR for the track. That could be the start of an EXTREMELY expensive hobby.

I do have to admit, the full black look has a certain ninja sexiness to it, like the sneaky black panther of the night or something.

But I have an '07, so, of course I could never mention anything like that.

After exhaustive studies and careful statistical analysis I have come to a thoroughly supported conclusion that yellow '02's are by far the fastest and best handling of any 919. It has very little to do with the rider.

Oh, wait ... did I get that backwards? Guess I did.

What I should have said is every rider smart enough to buy a yellow '02 has had their judgement confirmed by getting the fastest 919 ever made. Never mind there's only one in the country that I know of.

Rob

If it has already been done, it is safe to assume it is possible to do it.
On the other hand, if it has not been done never assume it is impossible to do it.

Nah- it is just the fancy high-tech handle bars fitted to that yellow one that make it faster - I heard that they easily add 15hp to the 919 :001_smile:
