Instrument cluster bulbs size.

The bulbs for the speedo and tach are 12V/1.7W wedge type. Anybody know the mm size for the wedge width? I am thinking it is between 4.5mm-5mm.

Now the reason why: I am looking to put in some colored bulbs.

Thanks Mistermike. I was on deployment when that thread went around. D**n, I thought I would be the first one to do this. Oh well. I am sticking blue behind there. Eventually I want the whole bike to have a black and blue color scheme.

Yeah. Can't see the photos at work, but I found the thread. Thanks. I always forget the search at the wrong times.

Got the bulbs in. They were a breeze to put in and they work great. Takes a little bit to get used to the blue light (still readable though), but well worth it.

If you got 197s vs the 191s(unless ofcourse you went to LEDs) you may want to pull it apart and make sure nothing is melting,I tried green 197s and they got hot very fast(finger test) while the red 191s that I went with stayed almost cool to the touch.Green LEDs will go in next time I open mine up.

I got LEDs from autolumination. The 194 SMTs http://autolumination.com/194.htm Have had them in for a couple of weeks and no problems so far. The true test will be in August.

Thanks for posting darkace
I've got this mod on my "to do" list too, but plan on trying out the cool whites instead.

I did some searching & found a place that might be a bit cheaper, depending on what you're looking for. http://www.superbrightleds.com/mini-wedge.html

While I'm at it, I'm thinking about buying enough to replace the bulbs in the instrument cluster in my 96 Tacoma too. A few years ago I bought one of those indiglo gauge cluster face plates off of ebay. I thought it looked cool, until one day it started flickering... & then eventually died all together.
Getting in there is a major PITA, so I only want to do it once - probably save it for a winter project.

The ones I have aren't that bad. It takes some getting used to.
