If I sell the bike...

I know this isn't a naked bike thread I'm starting per se so move it if necessary.

So if I sell my baby, I'll be looking for a new mobile hobby. Now, I have a ton of choices but where I start is here; A) Keep my 1998 Aura 3.2TL w/ 137k and get a project car that will fulfill my speed/adventure/danger/something needs like a bike did, eventually. 2) Sell both and upgrade to a newer car/Wrangler. If it's not a car it'll be a Jeep but those things suck mpg wise so probably not the Jeep. So if you'll indulge me with responses and suggestions (new project or new car), I always love yous guyses feedback and take it with a grain of salt! Please give responses to both choices!

Mate, it's great that you're THINKING of all these possibilities, but for heaven's sake, don't DO anything for quite a while yet...wait till you're back to something approaching normal good health...which might be a wee bit further away than you think....

I go to the bank tomorrow to find out if I can sell the bike. I'm making the GF happy and right now that's what matters. She's making the payments on the bike now (she's doing so as my b-day gift last Oct.) so she has a LOT of say. And hey, just getting suggestions. Doesn't mean the bike is going for sure
But if it does......... see above^^^^^

Ever done Auto-X before? It's basically an obstacle course set up by cones in an open parking lot/airfield/racetrack and each car gets 3-4 timed runs in a day. It costs about $40 per car to sign up and just about any car can enter. You can take a fully stock car, hopefully something sporty/lightweight (although I've seen two Ford Lightning trucks do it before...kinda silly) and still get your adrenaline while learning a ton about traction limits/breaking/accelerating/smoothness, etc. All you need is a DOT or SNell helmet and your car passing basic inspection (real basic). Speeds usually don't exceed highway but the lack in speed makes up in a tight course. You get added time for missed gates and knocked cones. There are standings and seasons usually go from spring to late fall.

The only catch is having to work the course also, that's how they keep costs down. There are usually 4-5 groups in a day; one that you run in and 2-3 that you have to work. It's a blast and costs/danger factor stay relatively low. Stock classes can do dot approved tires, shocks/springs, exhaust, and air filters/intakes.

+1 for auto-x. I used to do rally-x also, tons of fun. Same as above but on dirt with AWD subaru's and audi's.

Get healthy, save some cash and get into something u will enjoy. But for now just chill out and let yourself recover. You don't want to rush into anything you will regret.

+1 on taking it slow and easy and focusing on your recovery. You can check searchtempest.com to track 919 sales across the country. Then call a few sellers after the ad is pulled and ask what their bike actually sold for. When I did this last August, mint condition low mileage 06 and 07 919's were selling in the mid to high $3,000 range. The economy sucks right now and used bikes are selling cheap. Once you have a realistic market value for your bike, you can decide whether to keep paying the note a while or sell it at a loss and pony up the difference. Good luck whatever you decide.

Whatever your new hobby is, try to make it something your girl can do with you. She sounds like a keeper. She did buy you a bike afterall.

Autocross sounds like a good option tho, you could be the next Ken Block

Find an old Suzuki Samurai to fix up for a project. Great mudders/crawlers for the Hill Country.

I vote auto-x, very cheap way of getting into performance driving. I won my region in SM a handful of years ago. Always awesome to beat other guys that have nicer cars and more $ into their rides.
