How to pack in a jam?

I am headed down to VA beach friday and I just convinced Brittany to come with me.

The problem that I do have now is packing... Here's what I have at my disposal

1 LARGE duffle bag
2 Backpacks
2 Cargo nets
Straps

So now I need to figure out a comfortable way to ride with two bags, and two people for 7 hours on a 919.

Help?

shes not my girlfriend. Shes my best friend though and she loves to ride. So she is coming.

Do you guys think strapping the backpacks together then running the straps under the seat will work?

Really not a bad idea at all... probably wouldn't be more than like 20 bucks tops each way and loads safer.

you mean like side bags? If so, I would be worried that at speed they could be pushed into your rear wheel or under your seat. Just seems a little unsafe to me. Tell her she has to pack all her things in a normal size back pack that she must wear and then you can put your stuff in a tank bag or in a back pack and then just where it backwards so its on your chest. Your going to the beach so all you need is a pair of board shorts.

That's what I was gonna say too.

On my last road trip I sent half my stuff home via UPS half way thru the trip.. the dirty half of my stuff went home.

You should be able to FedEx from a shipping store to a shipping store. Gonna be more than $20 tho.. but worth it IMO.

An expandable tank bag would do the trick. You don't have a buddy there local you could borrow one from?

Otherwise, pack one backpack lightly, underwear, socks, t shirts toothbrushes, comb and just make do with what you have. Pack a pair of gym shorts or something to sleep in and you can wear them while you wash everything you wore on the way down, (either at your hosts, or at the motel).

Of course, your friend'll have to wear the backpack.

No problems using my washer and dryer Luke. So seriously, the Jeans you wear down can last the weekend. Also, if you roll your clothes... you can fit lots in one back pack. I used a top box and carried ten days worth of clothes in it with spare room.

do you have a luggage rack? If not it will be difficult to fit your bags & your friend I think.

Ship it! IMO last minute bungeed together stuff can be extremely dangerous, especially when the passenger seat is already taken and you don't have a rack.

Easiest and safest solution. Ship it to Mike's, then ship it back to school/home. I bet Mike would ship it back for ya Monday if you're leaving Sunday.

I do agree shipping it will make the trip the most enjoyable.
7 hours will suck if you are cramped or worried about the luggage.

Saddle bags work alright too. I can have my bags on and a passenger. See if someone around you has some you can borrow.

Also, you said you have backpacks available. If you each pack lightly, you can each wear one. If they get very heavy, the ride will suck though because your shoulders and back will start to hurt. I know this from experience.

As with the others, I'd ship it if the money isn't an issue.

Press Any Key To Continue.

Tie the backpacks together at the top and hang them like saddle bags and tie the duffle bag across the top

Not recommend you to tie the bags together and hang on both sides like saddle bag.

A guy here local with a PROPER saddle bag but did not fasten correctly ended up with the straps touching rear tire. The Nylon material melted onto the tire creating a very slip surface and needless to say he was off the road low sided it.

You can pick up a soft saddle bag for about 100 bucks. I have one and my gf can pack her weekend worth of cloths, extra shoes, swim wear and her gadgets for her hair stuff and bunch of other things with no problem. I was able to fit all my cloth in a tank bag.

Back pack is not so fun in long distant ride. The weight wear on your shoulder and if you wear perforated gear it reduces the wind going through your protective gears = hotter.

Make sure your 'friend' have all the protective gears.

estrogen its a hell of a drug.I am going to make a pair of soft sided saddel bags over the winter.I just got my stainless last week. The red bag clips under the seat and i made two inch straps to gounder the frame the muffler clamp does a great job at holding the strap in place.I sewed to clips to the red bag to hold the backpack in place.I also made a crush sack for the sleeping bag.
