Great little write up on the 919 Ben! You've nailed it on the head, and nothing quite sells you on the bike until you've taken her out for a trip like you did. It was something special at a similar trip when I was holding the throttle pinned for 10-15m at a time (in 3rd gear of course..anything more and that's way over..) and the motor never complained once.

That is until you follow it up with track time then you can really marvel at the awesome "budget" machine. Jack of all trades, master of none. I think I'm hanging on to the 919 as my main ride for longer, the thought of something newer had been a thought recently but it really is something special when you think about it in a practical way.

Where's the ride report on that trip? Or at least pics? And so... essentially you have your friend to thank for forcing you to buy the bike huh?

Agree, except for the range. Have owned 25+ bikes and only two have had a range of 200+ miles. The 919 and Kawasaki ZR7S.

If you go by the fuel light the range is only about 150... However, you still have 1/5 tank of gas left when it comes on, so it may seem short.

If you dont mind where did you get those mirrors? I am looking at buying the black Honda mirrors from the new CTX bikes but they are like 150 bucks. Yours look to be exactly what Im looking for.

I never did put a RR together for that trip but will sometime this winter and post it up. Haha yes, I razz him over it lots, it makes for a good laugh now.

If i remember correctly one went around the tail and the other down to that loop near the passenger peg. I really liked the bags for that trip, I should have held on to them.

My last bike, F700GS, might have spoiled me on range. I was getting close to 60MPG. On my last trip to Deals Gap, there was me, a Harley, and a 919. The 9er was always needing gas first, but the range is certainly adequate for touring.
