Honda 599 Price

What do you guys think would be a good price for a 2006 Honda 599 with 10200 miles on it? The guy is asking $5500 for it. I think that is too much, but do not know much about the pricing of these bikes. The guy says the bike is in great shape and has never been dropped. What numbers would you guys throw out for a bike like this?

you cant haggle price untill you see the bike. tell him you wont even come down to see the bike till he tells you he can give you 4000, or 4500. depending on how firm he is on the price.

Yeah, that is the problem, the bike is two hours away and I don't want to drive out there to look at it and not have a basic idea of the worth of the bike. I don't really trust NADA and KBB. Which say between $4,185 and $5,505.

Since he's priced it at the upper end of the price range listed, I'd think there would be some bargaining room depending on the condition.

"The Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value is representative of dealers' asking prices for a used unit in excellent condition."

Tell him that you know that it's in the upper price range and that private sellers get hundreds less than dealers get. I drove 2+ hours to get mine; it only had a few hundred miles on it and I talked with the owner extensively about every detail of the bike before I agreed to drive down there. I also asked him if he'd take $XXXX (hundreds less than he was asking), since I would be driving all that way, and he agreed before I said I would buy it.

Good luck!

As pointed out, it sounds pretty high. Now if it had alot of mods they can quickly add up and even if you didn't want them you can always sell them to help cover some of the cost if the stock parts are included.

I paid 5800.00 for an '06 919 in the Spring of '07 with 67 miles on it (bone stock)

Scott & Kristen both have 599's, hopefully they can add their .02 cents.

This bike is bone stock. Lowering the price because of the drive, that is a good idea.

I drove 700 plus miles to get an 04 bone stock with only 2100 miles on it and only paid $4500 for it! I would say that is high for sure!!! I did get about $500 off for the commitment to buy and the drive, sent him cashiers check with deposit money. If I would have had a n issue with it when I got there then I guess I would not have paid the rest and had a little vacation and only been out the down payment! You can tell usually if you can trust someone or not, just go with your gut!!!

Do post some pics if you get the opportunity, I'd love to hear about your experience adding a 599 to the fold, too (if it comes to that).

I should add that I bought my stock '07 919 for two hundred less last year with 4,100 miles...well stock except for the windscreen, mirrors, and luggage thrown in.

I would love to add another bike to the collection, I am just helping a friend do some research for his buy. I just happened to be a part of this forum and I thought you guys would help me out a little. And you came through.

The guy has gone down to $4,750. It has been dropped on his gravel driveway. nothing too noticeable. and that is the lowest he can go.

I bought my '06 919 3 months ago with 1450 miles on it, and paid $5400. Sounds like a lot to me...

I just looked at the 599 forums, and they are a whole lot cheaper than this one, with less miles on them!!! And this guy is being firm on the $4,750

I really don't think that $4700. is too unreasonable for an '06.

The only thing is that it has 10200 miles on it. I think for that amount of miles he should be able to drop the price lower. That is 5100 a year and at that rate it would need to have its valves checked in a year. Which I don't know much about but it sounds like it is going to be expensive.

That's way too high. It would be in your best intrest to wait it out for a better deal. I'm guessing the guy is upsidedown on the bike and is trying to pass it on to you. For reference, my 02 919 with 4200~ miles on it was $4800 + TTL (Original marked at $5500 before haggeling.) less than a month a go. This was from a Honda dealer with no damage and D&D pipes. (Stock otherwise)

I got no time for the jibba-jabba. - Mr. T

MajorNickmo got $7k for his 05 919 with all the mods he had done to it. It had low mileage and was one-of-a-kind.

You can do much better than $4700 for a 599 in stock form with minor scratches. I'd offer him $4k.

Keep shopping around, a lot of great deals out there.

We paid $3000 for an '04 with 6000 miles, but it had been laid down and needed some cosmetic repair. He was asking $4200 originally.

Well thanks everyone for the advice, but now that all this is said and done, he has found a 2005 919 with only 1308 miles and we talked the guy from $6k to $5500. We think that will be the bike for him because this guy is so firm on his $4750 and will be hard to haggle down anymore on the phone.

10,000 miles on that engine is the least of your worries unless the guy tore the heck out of it. In that case you can tear up a 954, ir you really try hard. I always like to know how old the guy is. That means more to me than miles. I would never again buy ANYTHING from ANYONE under 30. Sorry 20 somethings. Too many of you tear the crap out of everything you touch.

I don't think $4750 is a bad price, but the bike should be unscathed. If it's been down, add the price of everything scratched and subtract the total parts bill from the asking price of the bike.

I'd pay more for a Yellow one than a black one, but that's just me.

Much better deal, and he'll be glad he stepped up to the 9'er.

Car dealers are taking your meaning of the NADA book quite literally nowadays.

The 919 isn't in good shape, but The 599 just called and said he would take $4k for it. So he could go ahead and move.

How in the world can a 9'er (or any bike) with 1308 miles on it, be in "bad shape"?

well... i have seen someone take a brand new (0 miles) cbr1000rr off the showroom floor.. drive it less than 20 miles and have a smoked clutch.. we have a vlx600 in the back with 4.7 miles on it and its ummm fornicated would be a good word.. i see bikes litterally destroyed without being wrecked with less than 2000 miles all the time... never underestimate the ability of stupid people to destroy thing us normal people find durable.. goldwings with the engine smoking after 5000 miles..

Just wanted to say that with all the thousands of bikes in town for MotoGP last weekend, I saw exactly ZERO (0) 599's and TWO (2) 919's, other than Gin's and mine of course. Made for great conversation pieces when we were parked downtown Saturday night, several Europeans stopped to comment, and many people had never seen either model. "Look, you can see the engine!"

Exactly, he fell in love with my 2002 919 and I showed him some pictures of the 599 and he likes it better. Since the guy will now take $4k for the bike, we are going to get it on Sunday in Atlanta. WOW Motorcycles offered him $4600 for it, but he told them that he already had a buyer and didn't want to screw him over. So the bike has more value for it than he is paying. And when we ride together with his little brother, 2003 yellow katana 600, our bikes are going to look even better...
