Hi-Sports

I noticed the the ware on my front tire is kinda werid. It's really worn in some spots and it looks like it will need replacing before my rear.

I've heard a few people complain of the same thing with their stockers. Has anyone else noticed this?

<<< cool new smile!

I had that problem with the front Dunflop on my ST13 Steve. No signs of it on the 9'er yet, but I'm only at about 4500 miles with her.

I just noticed Friday while washing my 9'er that the front tire is wearing funny. Its got dips or low spots-could this be caused from over or under inflation???

Just my thoughts... if you aren't saying something to Ken here like, "you have 4500 miles on your front tire? Are you insane" Then I would think you may have high miles on your tires as well? How many miles do you have on yours?

I got 4500 miles out of a front tire once, it was scary looking when I too it off, though.

Caused by riding it(cornering). Some tread designs will "cup" more than others.

The stock front tire on my '03 919 cupped real bad. That was 3 sets of tires ago.

Probably am but my tires are still in halfway decent shape. They probably have a couple thousand miles left (maybe less, the stockers usually go downhill fast after the first half of the tread is gone) on 'em I'm guesing, so I'm already looking around at Pilot Road prices.

Best prices I've found so far is $110 for the front and $142 for the rear from Southwest Moto Tires. Anything better out there oh master-of-the-Internet-deal?

I got about 6k on my stock tires. The rear was pretty worn but the front wasn't bad. It was cupping however, like you described. So I replaced both tires with a set of pilot powers and I'm really happy with them. I think they corner and grip a little better. Got them at southwest moto, they had the best prices.

Ken check the prices here http://www.ronayers.com/

Actually looks about the same. They seem to offer much better prices in the off season if you can hold out that long.

Yes I did, mine is OK as it was made in Spain.

Thanks for the concern though.

I have a little over 4,000mi and I'm getting that weird cupping thing. The high and low spots.

I've gone through several front tires before on my previous bikes and I've never seen that pattern and with my normal riding style I always burn the rear tire up first.

It's no big deal, I actually look forward to getting some Stradas on the ol' 9er.

Bike came with missed matched tires. 5K on stock Michien front tire. Really bad cupping. Replaced front to match almost new rear, Conti Force Max, not the greatest tire but OK. Roads here are really hard on tires.

You guys aren't supposed to use tires until the front tread is nonexistant... you know that right? These tires aren't made for 5000-10000 miles.

Oh. I thought that once I wore the tread off I would save them for track days and use them as slicks.

My hi-sports seem to be doing okay. Minor cupping at the forward points on the tread pattern. Hovering just above the wear bars on the rear. 4500 mi so far. Might get 4800 - 5 out of em. If I can pry my right hand from the throttle!

My '02 still had the OEM Michelins when I bought it at 5500 miles. Front tire was pretty much gone, rear was not far behind. New Conti Road Attacks transformed the bike.

I use them till I hit the ware indicators. Isn't that what they are for? I'm sure they would still be good for a while but I think it's safest to do it sooner than later.

I had my last front tire for about 12,000 miles, it hardly showed wear except for excessive cupping and it was starting to dry out. Because of this rediculous mileage, I switched to something stickier this time.

Hey Sniper, good to see another Hoosier on the forum! I've enjoyed some great rides down south of Indy, can't beat the twisty roads and country scenary.
