Hello! I will buy a 919. which one?

I have been researching what my next motorcycle will be for over a year now and I have decided on a Honda 919. It seems to fit my needs perfectly, and it is a Honda. I have been sneaking around these forums for a while, learning a great deal from the wealth of 919 info here but I have a few questions.

Firstly, I have narrowed my 919 search down to these 2:

$6000 2007 HONDA CB 919

$4500 2006 Honda 919 (CB900F)

Which one should I get? I assume I could talk either one down a few hundred.

Nextly, I hear complaints about vibration on the 919. I am currently riding a 1982 Honda 250c and at highway speeds my whole body basically vibrates, my hands and feet go numb after a few hours but I still take it on long roadtrips. Is the Honda 919 vibration really that bad? Or is it a nitpicking matter?

Nextly, same question about the "stink": really an issue or just nitpicking?

Lastly, would either 919 choice still have to be broken in?

Thank you,

Jackson Agar

I would look at them both in person. You'll know which one you want. If they both are equally nice, no obvious damage, then I'd buy the 06, based on price. Mileage isn't a big factor here.

Can't speak for vibes as I don't experience any.

Same advice as BB2.

As far as 'stink' and vibrations, I've never had issues with either.

I've ridden with stock and low pipes as well as a couple of different handlebars with no bar-end weights ... absolutely no issues.

I've had stink with mine (California model) 02. The stock seat is an issue also, it's too soft for many of us.

Get the '06. No difference in the two years except mileage. There is no concern over 7,000 miles. Heck, I never worried about mine with nearly 40,000 miles on it.

The '06 is a better value, IMO. But if you wanted pristine and basically NEW to make it your own, then try talking down the owner of the '07. Show him the ad for the '06 and tell him to get as close to price matching or you'll walk ..

Whichever one has the best tool kit.

I agree the 06 is a better value. 7K miles is nothing on these bikes. 06 & 07's are identical.

the 06 is much better value, comes with asv levers, crg bar end mirrors (and stock parts to boot!), plus an extra seat. 7k miles: not even broken in yet. buy that puppy!

Not much to add... I would go with the 06. As far as vibrations and the stink... I notice the vibrations, but it's never bothered me. It's something I typically don't even think twice about. If figure it's a motorcycle. The stink can be a little more bothersome. Some riders see it, others do not. On my stock 03, I had little/no stink. I threw on some debaffled exhausts and it smelled a lot (to the point where my riding jacket would smell up the office). Upgraded to a single sided exhaust and it's barely noticeable.

I live in the SW suburbs. If you pick up a 9er we should go for a ride sometime.

I read about the vibrations and think, "what vibrations?" If I think of it, I can feel some vibes in the grips if I just touch them, but otherwise I never notice it. Compared to my old one-cylinder dirt bikes of yesteryear, of course, it's nothing at all.

'06 all day. I don't notice vibes, but the only thing I have to compare to is a 2000 Ninja 250. The stink is there, but I think it depends on the riders opinion about how bad the stink is. I didn't mind it all. Kinda liked it (aww I used the past tense). "You smell like man" my GF would always say. I say you'll be happy either way, but the '06 is a way better deal.

another vote for the 06.... 7k miles is like not even broken in! and you get extra parts!

id buy another 919 if it was in good overall condition at 30-50k mi without any issue

Check out both and crouch behind them when running for 1 minute each. Decide if the stink is something that's going to bother you. If it is, buy the one that smells less! If it isn't buy the one that says, "I'm your bike". Your gut knows.

Me? I kinda miss the smell. My wife and coworkers don't.

Thanks for the input! I also have another question: the heck is an ASV lever and why is it better than stock, or is it?

its just a name brand aftermarket lever(s) that are VERY pricy! more bling than anything else. the same goes for crv mirrors. not necessarily better: all depends on why someone bought them in the first place, the result is subjective
