This reminded me of what happened to me on the way home yesterday!

I pull up to the light to a nice looking HD 1200 sportster with the blacked out engine, give the older gent a friendly knod and nice bike he returned the gesture. Light goes green and i could tell he was really pushing his bike so i kept up but not all i had just for fun. ( I know it's still racing if a cop wants to even if speeds are legal) We get to the next light stop and kinda laughing he states that yeah i can't go though the twisty stuff but 0-100 I whoop azz! I'm like chuckling and we talk a bit about his bike and mine Light goes green and I spanked the shoey out of him, couldn't let the 9'er get a bad name! Get to the next light he says glad i didn't bet money on that one with a big ole grin!! Good seeming guy kinda wished we could've been going the same way a little longer, course that might have gotten us in trouble!

Just put a big grin all over my face and thought i'd share!! Gotta say that it was one of the best looking HD's i've seen! He said he liked cause he could ride it instead of polish so much

Back in college a friend of mine's boyfriend went on and on for months in the winter how he could keep up with my GSXR-750 on his Sportster 1200 in the straights.

Spring finally came and I won a nice steak dinner, imagine that?

sportster 1200s are more spunky than one might imagine, but by no means are they a 919. They are quick enough to not be boring. Now the 883 on the other hand sucks.

Like most people, in groups Harley-Davidson riders tend to be stand-offish to "infidels and outsiders", but one-on-one away from the pack, like everyone everywhere else, they are interesting, curious and open to most motorcycling chat.

Probably true, and how open minded of you Imagine the kind of treatment a solo HD rider would receive when he gets caught in a pack of rice rocket squids. I think its a pack thing. I got snubbed while riding alone by a big group of people, about 1/2 on HD, several Buells, and a few rice rockets. All of 'em ignored me. I try to be nice to everyone, and about 75% of the time, it works well, and 25% I get dissed.

The stares I got were priceless on the 9/11 run I did over the w/e.

Well first my excuse...I'm new at this.

Yesterday I was at a light and some type of Harley pulls up next to me in the other lane (I think it was a V-rod just by looking at pictures on their website). He doesn't even acknowledge me. Light turns green and he jumps on it and so do I. Well...he smokes me. His bike was so frickin loud I couldn't even hear my 919 and it messed up my shifting rhythm. I should have been watching my tach more but wanted to keep my eyes on the road. Sorry to let the 9'er crowd down.
...and I know I shouldn't be doing this but damn it was fun!

p.s. any tips?

I took my 919 down to the Harley 105th anniversary in Milwaukee. My buddy took his 929. Well we got in this long congo line that snaked from downtown up through the east side college area. At one point some guy started shouting for burn outs. None of the Harley guys would oblige so he runs out by us and yells "none of these pussies wanna do burn outs, you boys show em how its done!" We did our burnouts to the sound of raucous cheering from the Harley faithful. It felt like the Twilight Zone. But it was cool

Um....... yeah.
Burn outs......
You would have to buy me a new tire and then clean my bike for me before I would do one.

Guess I am a pussy for not wanting to abuse my shit.

I have no problem with anyone doing them.
but I find it rediculous to think less of someone for not.

In that case, I also note you did not say it, some other guy who did not have a motorcycle did.

I did 1 burn out on my bike when I first got my 919 and I was pissed when I had to clean it all up.

BTW for everyone's knowledge the Bike AJ used to beat the Harley now lives in my garage and has more upgrades.

No judging here. Roasting ones tire is entirely thier own business. For the record that was the only occasion thus far on my 919. I have to do it at least once on every bike just for gigles. Even my Shadow 1100 had to pull burnout duty. But that was on wet pavement. My ZX-11 was a burnout king.

Those new tracker 1200's go well - pushing hp in the 90's, a bit porky (hell it's a Harley - WTF is weight saving).

Have to say the Nightster is a fine looking beast.

Is this your imaginary motorcycle you are referring? If so, imaginary tires get incredible mileage and burn out time. Therefore, light it up I say!

For what it is worth the specs from Motorcycle Consumer News is as follows:

for the various sportster 1200s 0-60 4.58 to 4.84 secs, 0-100 n/a to 13.74 secs, 0-1/4 mi 12.99 sec to 13.54 secs and 1/4 mi mph 93.85 to 100.11 (again the various 1200 models)

vs the 919

0-60 3.22 secs, 0-100 7.27 secs, 0-1/4 mi 10.79 sec @ 123.54 mph

About 15 years ago, some idiot on an ironhead sporty - complete with girfriend in tank top and sandals decided to race me on my 93 900RR. I was in shock and finally let him by as a didn't want to contribute to 2 road fatalities!
Makes you wonder...............

Street racing is easy, don't use the tach or speedo................just gas it and go until your opponent is behind you and never underestimate the other bike or rider!

2 yrs ago i was sitting down in lake george watch bikes go by, when 4-5 600s go up the hill burning tires. that was cool. but it was even better when one got into a pissing contest with a harley dude. the sport bike guy had a chick on the back(which i do not approve of) and sat there and smoked his tire. well the HD dude had a-a-a-a well female on the back of his and could not get the tire to turn. made her get off so he could sping the tire. when the cops showed up she attempted to jump on the bike to leave. they got busted, in the meantime the sportbike was gone funny shat
