Talking Forum Noob on Oct '06 CB900

Hi everybody,
Just wanted to introduce my self. My names Scott from Brisbane Australia and the proud owner of a brand spankin' CB900 Hornet in bergundy red, optioned up with the screen (not sure about the brown colour though), crash knobs and ventura rack and bag.

What a great bike, fast, comfortable, good on the petrol and lots of info on the net about it, especially here!

First Impressions?? It accelerates in nearly any gear from an idle, and gets off the mark nice and quick. I love the throaty sound around 3500 rpm when on the throttle. I like how it gets some sparks from the footpeg bolt thingies at night in tight corners too. Comfortable for pillions as well.

On the downside, its a little too quiet (hmmm, baffle-ectomy may be in order), the ignition key can be hard to get in a times, and that little screw on the clutch side pillion peg that seems to fall out. The paint on the silver sideplates seems to be a little bit thin as well and scuffs with jeans or nylons.
Other than those lil' negatives, what a kick [email protected]# bike!!!

Thanx for the great forum too, so much info, even found the workshop manual for my new baby!!

Welcome. Unbelievable site for an unbelievable machine. You sound like you know a plenty already, but if you are a novice the men and women who post on this site will drastically compress your learning curve.

As for the paint, I bought mine used from a gentleman who has spent many decades doing bodywork at a marina. He coated the paint on what is now my 919 with a DuPont polyurethane Imron and sometime later PPG Concept Acrylic. In both cases the finish remains fantastic and requires only a windex (glass cleaner) wipe down. He has told me by email that the Imron has better touch up qualities as fading or damage occurs over the years.

All I know is mine is a 2003 and when I picked it up (eBay purchase) it looked like it came from the freaking showroom.

Take care.

Welcome Scott,

Use plenty of cutting oil; I wasted 2 holesaws doing mine.
I have the same problem with the key.
On the passenger peg?

FWIW, I like sparks too, but do yourself a favor and take the "curb feelers" off the pegs. Ask Darkace625 why?

Hi Mike, Yep, the passenger peg. (thats the word i was looking for!) Its a little pan head screw that holds a little oval plate on. I'm unsure of why they made the passenger peg different on one side to the other, maybe balance or something. I noticed in some other thread the same thing happening to other people. Was something I thought I'd bring up, as Honda, being known for years of high build quality could make little errs like this and the thin paint.

Welcome to the Forum, RockDog32.

I have the same problem with my key. Whenever it gets a bit stiff, I pull out the multi-tool and use the plier to give it a little twist. The key is so long (and apparently made of fairly soft metal), it gets a clockwise twist in it after a few weeks of riding. There's nothing more embarassing than being unable to start your own bike.

Welcome Scott! I'm a noob II. I was having a bit of trouble with the key in my ignition as well. I used Sentry One dry lube and it really helped.

Hey! At least that is not as bad at the Jessica Simpson Greatest Hits you have in the car, the iPod, the 8 track, the cassette and the ring tone...

Hehe.... Not the Bee Gees!!! Nothing but the finest metal for my ears. We dont get them here much in Australia, they've toured here 4 times since they came out in the late 70's. What an awesome night!
Thanx Sam919 for the info on the key. I tried some dry lube and it worked a treat. I liked the saddle bags on your ride, what brand were they?
