first ride second spill

So I rushed home today after work to get my first ride in of the season. (I swear I've been like a junkie jonesing for a hit) Grabbed teh bike and went out to get gas. I was thinking how much I missed the sound, smell, and feeling. 5 minutes from the house when I low sided turning right. OUCH! and Crunch!!
No injury or serious damage. Thank GOD for my engine guards. It took the whole thing!!! Seriously, not even a scratch anywhere else on the bike aside from my cheap-o side mirror snapping off. So the question is do I still get 7 years bad luck if I break the mirror during the bad luck?????

Long story short. Be careful out there on your first couple of rides, You may think you remember everything but it pays to go slow, and second WEAR your gear. I even contempated not wearing mine because I was just going around the corner, but I knew this was when I should MOST wear it. LOL

Ride safe guys and gals!

There's your plan and then there's God's plan.........
Your's doesn't matter.

Crap... Not the best way to start off the riding. Glad it was not serious.

Fish, I almost had the same thing happen to me a few weeks ago. Slid on a downhill through pee gravel on my 1st ride of the new year. Glad you are ok! What type of sliders do you have? I need some. GSG if I can cough up the cash.

It takes a lot of humility to post up about a spill.
It takes a lot of good to warn others about it.

Glad you and the bike are okay. Hopefully that's your one and only for this year at least.

Glad to hear you're ok man. Any info on brand of engine guards?

I fish-tailed the hell outa mine saturday night by accident on my first ride of the year. Long story short I went out for an early evening ride. Decided to stop at my fav bar for some grub (no drinking) sweet potatoe fries to be exact... mmmmm delicious. Anyway on the way out I gased it a little too much and she wiggled all the way up the hill. Scared me as it was the first ride of the season! I think what happened was some dew settled while I was inside, the roads seemed a bit damp the whole way home, and I know it didn't rain.

Anyway be careful as we blow the dust off our rides!!!

Dang dude. That is a terrible start to the riding season. At least you gained some knowledge and walked away from it. Thanks for the warning to all of us who have had our bikes up for most of the winter. It is a good reminder to pay very close attention and take it slow on our early rides of the season.

Now get back on that thing and be careful!!!

After many years and many dreams I have realized my goal of riding in all 50 states!

Now the rest of the world!

Engine guards- So-Motech I swear by them. This is the second time I've needed to call on them an deach time they save th ebike and my legs from much more damage. Plus they are easy to pull off file down and repaint!!
I'll take some some pictures so Redroker doesn't have a fit but seriously it's not worth the time. This is teh only damage....seriously.

Here's a link to the guards:

Day two: I must be getting old, because today I hurt in places I didn't even think hit the ground. Sprained Left thumb, inner right knee, and mid back. I swear we need to develope a glove that prevents the thumbs from pulling backtoo far. Thank God I'm a righty.
Oh and one last thing I didn't mention yetsurday that I feel is always worthy of note: After the spill a young kid (early 20's) pulled over, blocked traffic with his truck and then helped me right the bike. Whoever you are thank you.

Thanks for the post! I like the crash bars. I have been considering at set for my 9er.
It is really helpful to have crash reports. I know which bars to buy now and next time I low side maybe I won't break my toes again.
