good stuff. the 919 should be able to out pace the r6 in a drag with comparable riders on the bikes. r6 is more of a road race bike, not so much a drag bike

an r6 will trounce a 919 if ridden properly.
look at magazine times. a 919 is an 11.2 bike, MAYBE eleven flat if you kill the clutch.

an r6 is a 10.7 bike at least. i mean, at most.

maybe i'm showing that i'm a drag racer, but 3 tenths is an eternity.

depends on the year of the r6 too. i think for the average rider, the 919 will take the r6

bike against bike with the same rider, an r6 is much quicker.

sure, you wanna put a 300 pound rider on it?
i mean, EVERY comparison depends on the rider, the year of the bike, whatever.

a pro can get a modern 600 into the 9's with lowered suspension and a countershaft sprocket. pretty sure Ricky or one of the REALLY QUICK GUYS did just that with an otherwise bone stock kawi about 5 years ago.

think you can do that with a 919?

here's some dialog about it.

bucky..read a lot of magazines in my day...and it never translated to the street...1985 had suzuki 1150E...first time at a track 7 runs...had 4 runs of 11.2 at 121 122 mph..bike was rated 101 hp not sure if that was rear wheel or crank....919 is 100 lighter and close to 100 at the rear wheel.....hey dont burst my bubble ....also in 85 the vmax was said to be the king of the strip....but for some reason that 1150 kicked its ass every time...now in sure with a pro rider it would be a different story....but thats not real world street riding....Hornet919 my buddy has an 07 vmax and does everything he can to keep close....he stays close but he knows who his daddy is ...enjoy the weekend guys

"drag race"

what doesn't translate? if you're talking about "what translates on the street" you're talking about the rider, not hte bike. whether pro or not, an ADEQUATELY ridden supersport will trounce an adequately ridden 919 in a DRAG RACE. magazine riders got about 11 flat out of a 919, and about 10.3 out of supersport 600s. these are the same riders. so the same riders on the two machines have about .7 seconds difference in the quarter.

so Secondchance may be a very good rider, or the r6 guy may suck. but there's seven tenths difference in the bikes with the SAME rider.

Just have to look at bucky's photo on his posts to see he might be a teeny bit of a drag racer I think he knows his stuff. Besides an R6 is like 15 BHP more and weighs 20kgs less than a 900 Hornet. Power to weight ratio has the R6 being quicker.

I think it has a lot to do with the length of race as well. The 600 will win on the quarter mile but I beat them all the time from light to light. The 9er has a lot of torque to get them moving.

Spoiler:

well said and i agree....street riding has nothing to do with the quarter mile or the track....i would like to take a 600 for a spin..i never owned a high reving bike...always had bikes with torque that redline at 9000 rpm...summer is just starting...it should be fun

Ryan Schnitz was the first in the 9's with a 600 back when they had 600 supersport class in AMA dragracing. It was far from just being lowered and geared. Muzzy remapped timing in stock ECU, did all kinds of lil tricks to the head, all kinds of stuff. They sold the modded ECU if you had 1500 bucks to spare. All things being equal, I agree, the R6 should take the 919. The 9 should get him out of the hole and depending on how short the run is, "might" hold the 6 off. And yes, 3 tenths is a friggin lifetime! If you get beat by just a tenth, that's considered an ass whooping. Last time I was at the track, I took out a stretched Busa. He came up to me in the pits and said "Man, I was coming on the other end". I said, "Which other end? You mean the other end of the finish line??" I ran a 6.14 to his 6.30something and that XX motor was just getting wound up. Only place he was heading was the trailer.

XX motor in a 900 frame...Come get some.

I'm pretty sure I could get a flat 10.0 out of my Hornet if I ran it on full synthetic oil ......................

Even lower if I fitted some of those fancy Piazzo levers!

I just get ahead of them and then "let off" like the race is over.

What - you get in front and FART?

You want to wire up a spark plug behind your butt - when the fart ignites it will be like jet propulsion
