FINALLY got another 919!

After having my silver '04 919 totaled in a hit-and-run accident last summer I FINALLY have another one. I looked around quite a bit and saw lots of older ones in crappy condition, then found a 2007 919 down in Oregon with 770 miles on it. Just like showroom condition. It was worth the 200 mile ride back to Seattle!

I'm happy to say that unlike some other reports on newer 919s, there is NO brake squeal and NO exhaust smell...so far.

The one thing that concerns me is that with so few miles there's already dark pitting on the header where each pipe exits the cylinder. Cheaper chrome on the new bikes? My '04 had 15K miles and no pitting or discoloration at all. I'll eventually get it jet-coated but it seems odd to see a bike with 770 miles, that's in otherwise pristine condition, to have chrome that looks so shabby.

I just saw Roland Sands doing a commercial this morning for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation's Ride for the Kids this Sunday. It's supposed to be 75 and sunny so I'll spend my Sunday doing the event and putting more miles on the clock.

I can't tell you how happy I am to finally be back in the saddle!!!!!!!!

With the Circuit 1 covers due any day now, the mods have already begun! Open wallet... remove credit card(s)... let the modding frenzy begin...

mdtoney, congrats on your new 919. Were you able to salvage any of your aftermarket parts from the previous bike?

The entire front end was wasted but the rest of the bike only received minor scrapes, so I was able to salvage quite a bit of stuff: the wave rotors front and rear, SS brake lines front and rear, custom side panels, Progressive shock, powdercoated rear wheel and new Pilot Power tire, Sato rear sets, Yoshi CF slip ons, Speedo-healer, PC III, and Sargent seat (although there are a few scrapes on it from the accident so I may eventually sell it and send my '07 seat pan in for another one).
I'll be getting rid of quite a bit of stuff whenever I can find the remaining parts needed for the front end conversion (RC51 front wheel and 929 triple clamp). But for now, whenever I have some free time, I have boxes of parts waiting to swap out.

NO KIDDING!! It's been hard just sitting on the sidelines and seeing everone else out riding. The past couple mornings I've been riding to work with a HUGE grin on my face. I'm ready to get out and enjoy what's left of this nice weather. Let's plan something soon.

I need to update my avatar - the new bike is red. I'm still unsure what "the best" color is for this bike, but the red looks much better in person than in photos.

Welcome back. Candy red is hot. But it was too hot for my taste. So I drowned it with bleach...

Your avatar is sick. Tasteful mods that would compliment the red just as well as the silver.

Europe gets the Candy Blaze Orange...which would have been my second choice in color. Just like the Candy Glory Red but in orange. A delicious color.

That's awesome md! Can't wait to see what you do with it. Post pics when you get a chance.

BTW, I bet sargeant could just recover the old seat. Maybe less $$$.

shiney metal

My 07 919 has stainless steel exhaust header pipes and can be easily cleaned and polished. They were discolored at 500 miles. If you click on the link to mikes bikes on this post and scroll down he shows just how to make em shine like new!

I'll have to give Sargent a call and figure out what the best option is. And I hope to get the first photos of the bone-stock bike tomorrow.

Thanks for the info - I'll try and spend some time on the header this weekend. I also just found out there's a local company the provides coating services just like Jet-Hot; they'r located about 20 minutes south of me. A local vendor will reduce the down time if I choose to get it coated.
