Fast Fred @ R.A.

Just got back from the SuperBike races at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. I was walking around the paddock area and saw a clean looking 02 919 and stopped to pay a visit. It turns out it was Fast Fred Willink.

Told him about the new hangout for us 9'ers. Let hope he shows up.
Other than the rain Friday it was a great weekend. I Did manage to see from a distance a handfull of 919's - couple more than last year, guess we're starting to get popular.

Cool! Bunch of us gathered here in Portland for the Mugello GP race (holy hell, what a contest!!) and then the AMA. My 6 yr. old daughter was screaming, "Go Nicky, Go!" every time he'd make a pass or even show a wheel. I had a chance to road trip out to Road America from Colorado Springs in '94 and it was fun trying to figure out all the corners we'd gone to, all the brat stands we'd eaten at, etc. The other amazing thing was/is Duhamel. He was riding hard for Ducati back then and a dozen years later he's still a front runner and until the restart he was all over Mladin today. I looked at the archived data from the AMA site, but it doesn't go back to '94. Take a peak for old times sake at the standings from R.A. in '97. Lots of familiar faces:

Not having seen the race on TV i have no idea how Miguel lost 3rd today. he had a good bike lenght on boz going up the hill to the finish. WTF?? it's always a great time up there at RA. just wish the Honda boys could hold off Mladin. watching him go thru the pack is something you must see in person. his lines are just so good.

Here is my question for those that attended the Road America races.

Were the Suzuki bikes using Traction Control on Saturday?

I couldn't tell from TV, but they didn't sound like they were popping & cutting out like they normally do with the TC active & both Spies & Mladin were spinning the bikes up & being thrown out of the seat A LOT!

On Sunday the sound of Traction Control once again was eminating from Mladin's bike clear as a bell (not sure about Spies bike) & he totally blistered the field without every getting sideways or having a moment...

And did you see how much faster Matt's bike was passing the ducatis after the red flag. It was like they were stuck in 5th and Matt was already pinned in 6th?

Yeah...the Yosh bikes were insane on Sunday. It did seem a little strange how Matt just flew by the Ducs. I dunno, I just attributed it to skill and the right bike, but Matt was on it really frikkin hard and had no slides and virtually no front wheel lift...

as for traction control. it was very obvious that Mladin and Spies had a much different set-up then everyone else. they were the only two bikes with that Popping noise, and we heard it all three days. Sitting at turn three on friday your fairly close to the track and they have to back it in a little bit and it was quite evendent. i was with some Duc riders and they were pretty livid, after the Duc's got impounded and the Suzuki's got to run free.

I have finally found the forum. Road America was great, the 919 could of used another few HP.
