Does nothing for me. At least the Monsters are a little bit sexy and sleek.
That is just another B-King/Z1000 something to me.

I will stick with the Speed Triple as my street fighter favorite.

I thought of the B-King when I first saw it. Still a cool looking bike tho.

Actually this IS what I would want in a Ducati naked. . .a simpler approach than their streetfighter. . .and racier than the Monster. . .a mix of a Monster and a 1098/1198. The undertail is clean. ----I WANT THIS BIKE!!

On page 28 of the Dec issue of TWO, Giulio Malagoli said |"If you are wondering why there is no 848 or 1098 Monster yet, it is because the S4R is still a very sucessful bike for us, we are in no rush to replace it. Yet...."

I took that as "We're not going to build a 1098 Monster." Now I realise that they call the new bike "Street Fighter", but the concept is very close to a Monster. Can't believe everything you read, can you?

155Hp will translate to 135 at the rear wheel, which is still going to be eye popping compared to everything elce except for the B-King.

The thing that will always scare me about Ducatis is the cost of engine service/maintanence.

The Streetfighter S (with traction control, data analysis computer, Öhlins suspension and forged Marchesini wheels) will set you back a cool $18,995.

Maybe it's just me, but if I'm going to shell out that much $$, I'm gonna get a regular 1098S, not the Monster 1098S. I think it's by far the sexier sister.

Regular

Monster

But really - think how far Ducati has come in only 10 years or so - Its pretty cool when you think they were building the 851's and everyone was laughing at them , now they are force to be reckoned with - While at lunch saturday, Jamie tols us of a his season on the FBF 851s back in the day - Miami he missed a shift , threw a rod in the transmission and was ejected doing 140mph coming out of a corner. That whole season , Ducati couldnt keep a tranny together - And now, they are dominating the SBK scene -

Actually, the cost has come down quite a bit. I was close to purchasing a Monster a few weeks ago and that was one of my major concerns at first.

I've been reading about KTM 990 Super Dukes on another site. I really like that bike and am contemplating the procurement of one, but many reservations.

6-10 hours to do a valve job. Supposidly easy, but time consuming. No biggie. there is a period of aprox 6 weeks where I live that is unrideable, so I can deal with that.

There are reports of engine cases leaking because of poor castings. Pin holes in the engine in other words.

There is the occational puel pump quitting for no reason, brakes that don't, and a few other little niggles. For $13,000 you'd expest better. A 919 is half the price and no problems. Not the most thrilling bike, a 919. But they do a good job and are hard to walk away from.
