Drooped the 919 - broke the brake lever

Hi All,

I had my first ever drop in the last 4 years. Dropped my favorite bike...the 919. Went over in the parking lot. It was stupid of me. I was pulling a u turn into the space. As I was entering, I pulled the front brake too hard, and had the front wheel turned. Down it went....damnit I thought. Then I heard a metallic clink. Sure enough, I snapped be brake lever.

I figure dropping a bike comes with the territory. Plus at 5'6" I cant quite fully flat foot it.

Anyways, I've got just enough brake lever on it where I can still use the front brakes with 2 fingers. It hasnt really interrupted my riding too much.

Any suggestions on where to buy a replacement brake lever? The dealership wants $50.00 which seems like a lot. Should I pay it or buy some aftermarket lever?

Thanks all...this forum has been fantastic!

Holy crap! Ron Ayers only wants $29.98. You'd have to add shipping, but $50 from a local dealer seems quite outrageous.

Ronayers.com: Search

There's cheaper than this to be had in the aftermarket. Tell your dealer he has lost his friggin' mind.

sorry to hear about the drop. Did you only break the brake lever? any tank damage or turn signals? if not you got away with a drop pretty cheap.

As for the brake lever I would recommend picking up some adjustable after market levers. You can find some good quality ones going on ebay. Adjustments are great if you change up your gloves from summer to thicker winter ones and need the extra room.

Luckily no damage to the tank. The right engine cover is slightly scratched. The handlebar weight is scratched and the turn signal has a super minor scratch. You wouldnt notice most of the damage unless you really looked for damage. I think I really lucked out!

Thanks for the link on the brake lever. Not a bad price...i'm searching. Any other online retailers that are reccomended? Wondering, would the lever from a fireblade work?

Thanks again!
