DEAL'S GAP SPRING RIDE PART II

I just spoke to Bob at Two Wheel Inn. As of today he has no rooms booked for May 2010. So I guess we need to pick a date.

We should rule out the 2nd weekend (May 8 & 9) as that is Mother's Day.
Nobody wants to get Mom pissed off, right?
Second is ruling out Memorial Day weekend. Too many tourists in the area.

So that leaves the weekends of May 1&2 , 15 & 16 , or 22&23.

If we book our rooms before Jan 1 we will get the current room rate. Next year the rates go up.

17 rooms have twin beds so if anyone wants to share a room it will save on the cost. They also have 1 one bedroom apt. that can accomodate 6 people.
I'm going by myself so I'll be glad to share a room with any non-douchebag type that will be attending(see earlier post).

So get your vote in for your weekend of choice. Let's try to wrap this up by the end of the month.

four wheel vehicle travelers are responsible for picking up the beer.

May 1st and 2nd is the date for the Honda599.com I'm shooting for that date. But I'm a 45 minute ride from the dragon, so I can pretty much meet up any of the dates

May 1-2 is what I'm shooting for... still trying to nail down our 2010 spending plan

We've got a lot of stuff in the works for next year that are gonna cost us, so trying really hard to make sure we don't screw it up. Driving to Wyoming on Wednesday for Thanksgiving... hopefully I can update y'all by the time we get back.

TwoWheelInn looks like the destination of choice, if anything is left.

well.. i gotta be honest boys... like someone very smart said to me in another thread *(snikwad) the gap is heavily patrolled... i am probably gonna take a couple "yeah! i rode it gimme my tshirt and sticker" passes then i am gonna go for a spin down some of the other "awesome" looking roads that i see within 50miles that actually look MUCH more fun than the gap.... i hope some/most of ya'll will join in on this search because from what i have been told there are some incredible roads in the neighboring area....

If you're taking a zipline canopy tour on your next vacation, I would love to know if what you are expecting? As far as I know, zipline canopy tours give you a bird's-eye view of the forest, move you across canyons and show you scenery that can't be viewed from the ground. Before you hook onto a line and start zipping, however, reputable zipline tour operators give you basic training, which may include a fast ride on wire close to the ground.

This is why I'm not crazy about "The Dragon".

And no, I won't put any stupid stickers on any of my bikes.

Good plan. The cops are the main reason I've never done the dragon. That and I always seem to get sidetracked when I try to make it out there. There are too many other places to ride without all the hassle.

I know some good roads around Asheville, Brevard, and Marion so let me know where you plan to be and I'll send you a list and directions to a few of my favorites. (This applies to anyone)

ETA: If anyone is interested there is a nice national forest campground about 10 miles from the Dragon on Fontana Lake called "Cable Cove". Costs about $10 a night and has water and toilets but no hook-ups. It should be wide open that time of year.

Granted he's riding 35 year old Triumphs, but my buddy tells me those roads are a blast at or near the posted limit.

The problem at the gap is that when they are out in force they look for anything, I mean anything to cite you for so you'd better have it together when you go. A friend of mine got a ticket for a bar mounted video camera, another guy that went with him for no tag light (and they were riding during the day). So it's not just speeding. It's really too bad because it truely is a great road for motorcycles.

i have heard the same and thats what I intend to do... ride at or near the posted limit...... then go find other roads and bump it up a tad.... but what i do not intend to do is go and think i am on a race track doing a track day and drag knee and hit triple digits.... not saying i won't or will not have a little bit of "more than legal" fun........ i am saying i don't wanna go and get a ticket and scratch up my pretty bike because i was showing my ass....

i personally am going because i am a 41 yr old father of 3 that has gotten to a point in his life where he has a couple toys and the time to get to enjoy them...

also because my oldest son is ALLEGEDLY *() supposed to meet me there and we will get to ride together for the first time.......

I still intend to. However, work is very sketchy right now. I won't be able to make the call until it gets much closer.
Or, I'll be able to leave tomorrow and stay all year

I'd enjoy camping also... as long as they have showers. Any of the ones you've spoken with float your boat?

This sounds like fun, but I am not sure what next year holds yet. The trackday place I ride with is doing a weekend at Barber and I have been thinking about that as a possible motorcycle outing. This would get us back in Carolina, and would probably allow me to ride with my dad, as he is in Virginia. Also, the family might be able to visit friends from when we lived in Carolina....

hmmm......choices, choices......why doesn't money grow on trees? If I had an unlimited supply of $$$ and time off, I would do both! Unfortuantley, I don't and probably can't.

Guess I should look at the school calendar too. Already pulled them out for a week in October to vacation in Virginia and see relatives. School might get mad at me.

Few things seem dumber than excluding dogs from camping. They belong together like peanut butter and jelly. Buncha dogists!
