Cost of Paint

Hey guys. For those of you that have painted your 9ers... What did you pay (ballpark) for the tank, tail, and fender? I am thinking a solid one color.

How's that wear? How thick is it? Was thinking about doing my truck bed.

Back to the original question, had a couple bikes painted from a professional painter at work. Paint, prep, and labor was $300.

I put around 7 layers on. It wears smooth around your belt buckle and gives a nice effect.

I paid 700.00 three years ago. They went with a very durable paint and the color ran the price up a little bit too.

Thanks guys. This gives me something to go by. My color thoughts are plain white with a black checker racing stripe, matte burnt orange, or matte white pearl similar to a Speed Triple.

Just play. Have fun. Enjoy the game.

Well, plane white is going to keep the cost down, the stripe can be vinyl and then clear coat applied over it.

As a painter, I can tell you that the cost is directly related to the paint you use. If you use omni (a PPG line) you can have a quart of white, pint of black, gallon of reducer, clear coat, and sealer for under $200 and they are user friendly, fair quality products. If you have a decent air compressor and a respirator, a $30 harbor freight paint gun will do you well.

30,000 mile 919 survivor. No plans of stopping the abuse any time soon.

My wife picked the color, off the shelf, at Home Depot. The matte clear cracked but you can't tell from more than 3 feet. If I cared any more I would buy a new tank, tail, and fender in matte uranium. If I had it painted I'd likely go white-ish and matte.

I'm beginning to really love the look of a bellypan on the 919... Where did you get your one?
