choke

ok, super stupid i am sure, but i do not have an owners manual, i breezed a pdf service manual, and i have only had the bike a few days... is there a choke, i noticed there is something that looks like a choke on the left hand side of the bike that pulls out.... am i just to crank the bike, does this need pulled out a few times before hand? bike starts out pretty low idle... my F4i was automatic, it ran high rpms til the engine warmed, then slowed down...

It's a enricher because it is a fuel injected bike. Unless its like 50 degrees out, I never use mine. If it starts and runs then you don't need to use it. Pulling it out a little might help your idle, but you don't wanna leave it out for more than a minute or so. You can adjust your idle at full op temp with the yellow thumb screw under the tank.

Yes thats the choke...or enrichment knob as some people call it, I very rarely use mine, if i do its only for a few seconds. It really depends how cold the weather is.

hi honda, yes there is a choke. in cold weather you would use the choke to help start-up. you dont need to pull it out all the way. just enough to maintain a steady idle above 1100 rpms for no more than 30 seconds. its pretty easy and you'll get the hang of it right quick. if you do it longer, wont do any damage upfront so dont sweat it.

get the bike all nice and hot, then if it is still idling low, you can adjust the idle.

Not sure if it is bad for it or not but it was only 45 the other morning and the bike started right up never used the "enricher". Now, on my old '81 GPz550 that bike wasn't happy unless the engine was hot so I had to use the choke all the time, even 80 degree days. But once it warmed up that little 550 4cy screamed.

I've only had to use it in cold whether when the bike has sat a few days. i ride the bike even when it's in the 20's so I've used it a few times.

Get some weird looks when the thermometer says 21 and I ride the bike. Went to work one day like that and half my building came up and asked if that was me? Of coarse you idiots I'm the only one here that rides his bike to work in the first place the rest of you pansies trailer the thing to "RIDES". I won't miss the upper middle class media addicted idiots there that's for sure.

I don't think it's bad for it. I ride mine all winter as long as there is no salt or snow on the road. I almost always try to start without the enricher first. Most of the time, it fires right up.

I missed an opportunity to take a photo of my bike next to a temp sign that said +9 degrees F last year. Maybe I'll get a similar one this year.

Yes, that is the choke.

Does it pull out? I wouldn't know, never used it. Kidding, but really, with FI (Fuel injection) and unless it's really really cold, you shouldn't need it.

I've started the bike in 30 degree and less temps and never used it.

On my old bike, a VTX, it just fouled up quicker if you used it.

Get it started and keep a little gas on, she warms up quick.

I use the choke to help warm the engine up when its chilly out. I used it the other day for the first time this fall. When I use it, I pull it out and when I go to check it a minute later it has retracted itself. magic!

Well, fire the engines! Spur this iron space-pony on!

I never thought of that would be a fun photo to have.

I have used the enricher on occasion and am a better man for it.

Choking sometimes warms my wife up faster.

I use it all the time - all the way out - start - back in almost all the way until idle smooths out - all the way in.

Seems to idle a little rough if I start without it with a cold motor regardless of ambient temp.

I've tried it a couple times, never really needed it, even in the low to mid 30's.

Nonsense!! Alls you got to do is crank the engine and pin the needle to redline for 30 seconds and you're good to go!
