chain tool

if i split the chain can i use a split link to rejoin it or do i need to use a chain tool to rivet it back together iv heard difrent opinions from people

If you search the forum you'll find a pretty firm knowledgable majority siding with a new riveted master link (using a chain tool).
FYI, Honda's manuals don't even talk about an alternative. Like "YOU WILL" use a rivet.
I figure it like this; 100 Horses + unwilling to rebuild bike = Riveted Master Link.

The biggest troublemaker you'll probably ever have to deal with, watches you from the mirror every mornin'.

thanks for info just made my mind up really but i have seen what a chain will do to cranck casings and my freinds back ,but iv also owned 500cc motor cross bikes with split links in the chains and iv seen them leaving 1000 cc superbikes standing off the line until the back strait
