Can't shut her up

Wife has a red 2007 919 and we were playing around on the highway the other day with a 60 mph 6th gear roll off against my 2004 K1200GT beemer and pulled me slightly by alot.
She has since started the bragging to her friends, my friends and our friends without let up in sight. She made sure I knew that my beemer was more than twice the price of her 919 and that was back in 2004.
She is still a fairly new rider and doesn't seem to understand I LET HER WIN to help build up her confidence. She has challenged the beemer again but I do not want to bring her down AND I see no use for the both of us to be habitual traffic offenders.
Ya'll know it is about safety == Right.

Repeat the challenge, only this time, you ride the 919.

But then if you win, its the bike. But if she wins, its the rider.

Either way, you loose.

She does not allow me HER 919 anymore. I took it out twice without asking. She got very possesive of her 1st NEW bike.

Just let her win again it makes life much easier. Motorcycles aren't about going fast in a straight line. Take her through the curves if you want to increase her confidence more.

She is not ready to play in twisties yet but that is not to say we won't take a cruise thru them. She still thinks that all over the road and fast is better than slower and smoother. My idea is learn to be smooth 1st then add speed. I can go thru twisties faster one handed than she can with both hands and I have a severe case of cornerphobia.
It just does not seem right that to beat her 919 in a roll on that I have to bring out the 1100 ZRX.

Oh I forgot to say that around here corners are called cloverliefs...........

hey man, I too have a red 919, bring her down to my neck of the woods, see if she can keep up on these roads. one of the local rides here has over 600 turns (no cloverleafs, sorry) and is over a hundred miles long, a 2 1/2 hour ride for sure. all in good fun bro

Her and both would love roads like that but the best we could do is just make a nice cruise out of it.

wait you have a wife riding a 9'er and talking sh.t to you about wipping your azz with it and you have a problem with that....the problems i'd love to have!! Find a corner spin or speed class close to where you two are take it and continue learning and riding!! Basically if they don't do anything that close find her some help on getting her smooth like you say either together or separate but promote that right attitude so she don't just want to continue racing you and everyone else, it's okay right place and time of course but young riders myself included ride over our heads sometimes with out knowing it. I think your doing the right thing by not racing her all the time!

OH yeah LUCKY BASTID!!!

I learned this lesson too late but it might help: Is it better to be right(faster) or happy?

There's your plan and then there's God's plan.........

By letting her win you should have expected the smack talk. Discresion is still the best part of valor.

I'm inlcined to agree with you on this one... Perhaps that post should have stated -

Motorcycles aren't about going fast "ONLY" in a straight line.

Hahahaha...

I said to a friend the other day "anyone can go fast in a straight line"... He replied - "I thought so too, until I took a new CBR1000R for a test ride"... He said it was the most terrifying few minutes of his life to date...

What i meant for this particular situation is that wasn't the ONLY thing the motorcycle could do. We all love to hear the engine rev and enjoy the acceleration. Thats why we have them, but if the only thing you do well and fast is go in a straight line then its kind of wasting your tires and potential.

Thank You CeeBee919 and MotoCycho for point out that i miss phrased

When was the last time you ran a 9.82 at 139? Strait lines are fun and now she thinks she can ride my ZRX1200 because it is closer to the ground than her 919.
Not gonna happen................

About the letting her win --- I may have overstated that a bit and she MAY have got the glory last Thursday night.

It used to be when I got home and went to the gayrage that I would feel heat coming off the motor of my ZRX. One time may be the 1100 and the next may be the 1200. She would just say I could not prove she did or did not ride them but the rememdy would be if she had something better than her old 1986 ZL600. Now ya'll know how the 919 came into play. Used to be she did not want to mod the 919 but now she wants exhaust aender liminator and if she turns out like someone else in the house it will never end.
Did I mention that I am home 3 hrs before her and sometimes the 919 sneaks out of the gayrage.

I'd be worried about you if you could resist the temptation of sneaking out that 9ner everynow and then. A friend of mine taught me a valuable lesson about cc's one day, when he lined up his 80's GS1200SS Suzuk with my 9ner and spanked me like a stepchild. Granted i was running stock everything that day and his bike was modified with kit carbs and full race exhausts. I had him up to 3rd gear then he blew by my on the back wheel. What took him so long? Well the tires on his bike were really old and a little dry rotted so the rim was spining in the tire until he hit 3rd. Generally more cc's will when in a straight line race.

If we did a track day we would both probably fall down. Neither one of us can cut a corner but we can have fun on short distance roll ons.

9.82 @ 139? those are odd numbers together, typically done by a heavy bike with good power. Destroyer numbers. probably new Vmax numbers. not z-rex numbers? NOT stock z rex?

standard bore JE 12.5 pistons (stock 10.0) ported head and ZZR1200 cams 6 in over arm and some regearing plus it should be a little faster but I am a 240 lb fatboy. There is more stuff there but that is the basic performance parts. I do have a set of 38mm smoothbores to go on it but just have not felt like playing with them. I want a slick but I need to get do something about getting the training wheels to fit the new arm.

(from patting myself on the back.)

i've contemplated a slick, but only on cold days with a raw track. good luck, sounds like a nice ride.

I would hate if anyone did this to me, let me win fair and square, don't try to build up my confidence that way. I would rather earn it the right way, I'm not a 5 year old kid that you have to "let" win.

Plus I know enough about bikes that I would probably figure out that you "let" me win.

If you're going to make your wife any stronger and more confident, be honest with her right from the start. Make her EAT YOUR DUST!
