Can used parts be too good?

A couple weeks ago I won a 919 tank on eBay. It was listed as scratched, no dents. Perfect candidate for a sand down and repaint (maybe Pearl Amber Yellow?) Anyway, the tank is obviously a dealer take off and is from a silver '04. Sure enough, it had a small mark on the left outer edge.. not a scratch though.. a black smudge. It polished right off. The tank is now %99.9 perfect. The spot where the smudge was, just has slightly less gloss and is about 1/8" x 1/4". I am certain that I could polish it back up to be glossy. The tank has no other damage and is as clean as a new tank. No swirls in the paint.. not even wear marks in the foam underneath.

So now what? I can't sand down a perfect digital silver tank.. and I don't want a digital silver bike. My bike is asphalt and my tank has no dents either.. I just wanted the ability to swap colors. I have a used tail section on the wall and a fender on the way.. so I was almost ready to go Pearl Amber Yellow or Slate Gray or something, until I got this worthless thing:

You could sell it to a 919 brutha who's tank is still dented from a get off 2 years ago. That would be me. Wondered before about changing mine to the '04 silver.

It's a fool who looks for logic in the chambers of the human heart.

I know it's beautiful... that's why I can't bring myself to sand on it. All it would have needed is a small scratch or a some tiny flaw and I would not even think twice. But it's basically flawless. I just can't bring myself to do it.

I'm open to trade offers plus some cash if.. and only if your tank is dent free... maybe just a small dent or two... but I would have to see pics first to decide. The amount of cash will depend on the condition of the trade tank. I don't care about scratches and chips in the paint. No rust at all.. and prefer no dents.

Cycho, I LOVE that you have all those extra parts so that you can swap colors on your bike, it makes me feel much better about my 919 and modification problem. I think we should probably start a support group, we probably would already have at least 10 members from what I see on this forum. The first step is denial, I am way past that, I know I have a serious problem

I will give you 2 (yes 2!) pretty f-ed tanks for your one, I mean, I know I am being really nice but you deserve 2 tanks alright. How could you pass up a two for one offer?

You can't put sand paper to that tank! That would be a crime. I think you should trade or sell it to a guy with a silver bike.

PM with offers. I am looking for a tank with no dents or rust or leaks. Paint is not a factor.

i'll buy it from you!!

I just rashed mine last friday. Even though I like the black I'll be happy to have silver. I saw that tank on e-bay but missed out.

Can't afford $650 for a new tank from Honda! I will need a new tail anyway but I can wait.

I love my silver 919. Looks clean when it isn't. Really sharp in the sun.

Yup! have not taken it out of the box since those pics. Shame to have to sand on a 99.9% new condition digital silver 919 tank.
