Call me crazy...(Ducati content)

So this year I'm super tight on money, and regretting selling my Speed Triple. Anyway, we have a 99 Supersport down at the shop and I could pick it up on the cheap. Only thing is I'm not 100% crazy about the look...unless I could modify it! Street fighters are more my style, but some bikes just look gross stripped of their plastics (RC51 anyone?).

So I scoured the internet in hopes that someone has done this before...and well...someone has!

There are plenty of used Ducati Monsters than can be had relatively cheap. I would look before tearing up a 900SS.

Looks cool but perhaps the Monster route does make more sense.

How cheap? Can you work on a Duc yourself? And, do the front differently than that guy if you go for it. Also, if it is really cheap and the plastics are good, and you don't plan on putting them back on, E-bay them to pay for part of the bike.

Good Luck!!!!

Hey everyone, it is supposed to be 60+ here tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like it. . .sportier than a monster. It's more in line with Ducati's own new Streetfighter.

Now this Ducati naked IS what I REALLY like. . .someone's version of what the Monster should be. . .freakin' mean:

There is a guy here in town with a 2004 Ducati Monster in Red for sale. $1,800 OBO. Something must be wrong with it. He still rides it and I see him on it EVERYWHERE!!! It probably has 60,000 miles on it. I can stop and get details on the way out of town if someone local is looking for one.

Press Any Key To Continue.

Thanks for all the replies guys. Sure I could go buy a Monster really cheap...but Monsters are every where. Ideally I would buy the Ducati Street Fighter, but I shouldn't spend that kind of money this year. So I might as well do something custom.

The white monster posted above looks hott, but again that's a new design, so I'd have to coff up the $10k.

As far as being able to do my own work...Some of it I can do, some of it I'll have our tech do.

I saw it at the motorcycle show, and it is as good looking, or even better looking, than in the pictures. Two big problems. First, the engine has had several recalls and I would want to know whether those problems have been truly cured. Second, it will probably sell just like the Hypermotard (incredible for 6-8 months and then go totally dead). There is a pretty limited market for bikes like this, so I would definitely wait a year and pick up a used one for a steal. I had an opportunity to buy a Hypermotard S for $9500 at the dealer with full Termi and more last summer, and it was perfect. Either way, I'm betting it is an incredible ride.

That's the beauty of a nice naked. . .showing its guts and muscle, leaving sexiness to faired bikes.

You are considering an old ducati to save money...Oxymoron. J/K

Since you work for a Duc-dealer and can leverage the bro prices...you MUST ride one for good marketing.

Agreed. Although I do think people appreciate honesty when I can intelligently discuss other makes and models, and have good things to say.

sorry to rain on the parade, but if money is tight, than why purchase a motorcycle, especially if it is going to require more money to change it into something that suits you better?

How about going just naked with the 900, like the Sport 1000's ? Naked, round headlight but, you get to keep the more modren suspension and stuff ?

Better to have motorcycles and no money than money and no motorcycles, to paraphrase an old 70's saying.
