Correct me if I am wrong but the older models have the black, at least my '02 has black.

'02-'03 black. . .'04-'07 chrome.
You can get the earlier black version from Honda. Someone will chime in with the part number.

I have a 2007 model 919 and actually just ordered that part Sunday from Honda Parts direct for the 2002 model.
I don't know what the dealer price is but here is a link to the page.

Change the part heading window to "speedometer" and scroll down, it's item #16, part #37130-MCZ-601

I know I could have painted mine but I like to keep my stock parts.

I just took mine off, scuffed it up with some very fine sandpaper, couple coats of Dupli-Color 'adhesion promoter', and shot it with three coats of satin black.

Are the covers an easy swap?

Just swapped my covers this morning. Very easy. Took about 10 minutes.
1. Remove the two bolts securing the headlight assemby to the headlight brackets. Don't let the headlight assembly fall. You can let it hang after removal.
2. Remove the two acorn nuts securing the headlight brackets to the cover. 1 on each side.(10mm head)
3. Remove the two headlight brackets. 2 allen head bolts on each one.
4. Remove all the screws from the back of the cover (5 of them).
5. Pull the cover off.
6. Install new or painted cover.
7. Reverse above steps.
8. Done!

Garyb... Help a brother out... You gotta post some pics now. Seriously though, I'd like to see the black covers with the stock headlight assembly on the red. I own the red too and was wondering what it would look like with the stock headlight. I saw Ken's pictures above, but he had the dominator lights and I have no Imagination... Thanks!

Here ya go. They may not be that good. That's the Honda part. Not a painted chrome one. You can see the color difference.

It's not as drastic a difference as it looks in that firdt pic. Might be the angle of the sun and the camera.. The difference is the cover is flat black and the rest of the speedo is gloss black. If you want a closer match I would suggest painting it though.

Thanks for the pics... I think they look pretty good. Better than the shiny chrome anyway. I think that's next on my to do list, but I think I'd have to paint the chrome trim around the headlight too after I change the gauge covers. Too bad the headlight bucket and the gauges aren't flat black. I think that would look pretty sweet!
