Bar end mirrors??

Ok, I'm sure this has been hashed over mulitple times, but help and opinions are appreciated.

I've got Renthal street fighter bars with Renthal bar ends. I got rid of the Mickey mirrors. Ran some rectangular Ken Sean mirrors last year, they look good, but don't like them as I can't see past my shoulders behind me.

Who makes the best setup for bar end mirrors?

Lane splitters or standards?

Thanks!

CRG is the best, but very expensive. I purchased a few sets of the CRG knock-offs on eBay for about $20 total. I don't split lanes so I don't need to fold mine in for an extra few inches of clearance.

Oberon makes a good looking pair as well.

The awesome size and shape of the Lane Splitter glass leaves most of them in second place though.

That's the thing I'm not sure of. Are the lane splitters just fold in mirrors, or have more convex glass in them?

Looked at the Oberon's on Street fighters inc. Wow, those are also very nice, but my wife would probably be very if I bought those.

i have a set similar to the ones posted on ebay a couple posts up. while they do look a whole hell of alot better than stock and do provide (at least for me) better rear viewing, you do get what you pay for. i think mine were about $20ish shipped and quality is so so. i have a hard time tightening them up all the way. they tend to fold in by themselves around 65-70 and above. ill be upgrading this spring now that i know i like bar end mirrors

These look like the pairs I have. I will say they are cheap for a reason. Mine tightened down fine though. My problems stemmed from losing the little plastic mirrors. There are two little black pieces that hold the mirror in. They fall out then the mirror falls out soon after. I recommend taking out the little black pieces, removing the mirror, squirting some glue or silicone on the back of the mirror, reassemble, then super glue the black pieces in place.

I know it isn't just install and go, but you are getting 2 decent mirrors for $20 when 1 CRG mirror is closer to $75

I meant to chime in earlier but I got distracted by a few other things...

About a year ago, I picked up a used CRG Lane Splitter off eBay... just one.
I figured it'd be a good start since I got it really cheap.

A few weeks later I was visiting a friend in Phoenix & we went into Cycle Gear store.
I picked up two of their bar end mirrors and compared them side by side - they were both on sale. I couldn't see any difference, both were constructed the same, just different brands & different prices. I ended up buying the TrackSide bar end mirrors. I think I got them on sale for about $40. Watch them, they do go on sale.

I eventually sold the CRG. And to be honest, I couldn't tell a difference between it and my TRACKSIDES other than the fact that the CRG had "CRG" engraved in the back of the housing.

I'm happy with my TRACKSIDES, it's hard to see vehicles that are more than say, 100 yrds behind you... well, SEE them no, DIFFERENTIATE cops from other cars, yes.
But I believe that's the nature of a smaller mirror, not a reflection of the specific branded product.

That's my FWIW

I have had the ebay mirrors in black mentioned above for about 4 months now. No problems, but I tend to ride on the easy side, like the old man I am.

I also bought some off ebay that look like those. Mine were about $20 and they had plastic mirrors in them (which sucked IMO). I found some CRG replacement mirrors and put those in place of the plastic one. I have had them for about a year and have not had any problems. Total cost was about $40 with the replacement glass.
(there is nothing special about the CRG mirrors just they were 3" and are convex mirrors)

So do the Ebay mirrors have flat glass or convex? What about the Tracksides, convex glass??

it's been a while since I really looked at 'em.
I believe they're slightly convex, but definitely seem to be glass (as opposed to plastic) lenses.

I took a bunch of pics before I installed them.
If I can find them when I get home tonight I can hopefully post them up if you want.
If I don't get to it tonight, definitely in the next day or so.

FWIW, I'm totally happy with the TRACKSIDES.
They're built the same as CRGs as far as I could tell, just don't cost as much.

Those look great. Quality at half the price of the high end brands. With the economy/paycuts one has to try and find the best deals these days.

True.

Like I said, these do go on sale, so if you don't need them right now give it 'til spring.
I'm sure you'll be able to get these for less than $59.99
My records show I got them on sale in late March of 2009 for about $10 less.

I'd bought the cheap ones off ebay and when I had them on they were great. The quality is good and they do the job intented. But as I was commuting on my bike, I replaced them with some other "stem" mirrors as I couldn't handle not splitting/filtering through traffic, especially combined with the renthal bars which are a touch wider. Put them on my 250 instead.

Now that the 250 is gone I may just run the 9er with just the right hand bar end mirror.

Thanks everyone for your input. I'm going to keep an eye on the Tracksides. Hopefully they run a sale towards spring time, and I'll snatch up a pair.

Just another chime in for the tracksides, I have em and love em. Don't over tighten them though you will break it! Props to cycle gear for swapping it out though.

Trackside mirrors are now on sale for $40/pair at Cycle Gear. The question is did they change manufactures? The pictures on their websight changed and the mirrors now look like the cheap E-bay mirrors. I'd hate to buy a set and find that they are the same as E-bay $20/pair mirrors.

This sucks! I was so ready to buy a set.

What do you guys think?

How heavy are the mirrors. When yall run just a right mirror, do you leave the bar end slider on the right? Does thsi make it unbalanced

JabberJoe - they're not very heavy at all.
As far as being unbalanced with only one... it wouldn't have any effect on me.
If you're one of those people that absolutely has to have the lightest this & that for weight savings... no. Even then I doubt you'd ever notice.

I'd weigh them for you, but I only have a regular bathroom scale, it wouldn't be enough weight for it to notice.

Stock bar ends will not work with these things... it's either/or in this situation.
Either you have a bar end weight / or you have a bar end mirror.
If there is a way to run both I'd love for someone to chime in & tell me how.
I'm running Renthal Ultra Lows.

BTW, the TRACKSIDES come with an adapter collar, so you can run them in small or larger diameter bars.

Thanks guys. I just placed an order for a set . Sure hope I still get the old style. Cross my fingers. $46/pair to my door.

Once I get them on I'll have to take new pictures of the bike and post them. I never got around to posting all my updates last year.

nope, no inequality that I can tell... the only concern it causes me is that I no longer have the protection of the bar ends in the event the bike goes down.

Just got my Tracksides today!! They are the old/good style. Can't wait to get them on the bike and go riding! Oh, wait it's still February in MN with 4 foot deep snow drifts. Guess I'll have to wait.

Thanks guys for the heads up on these mirrors. They look great.

Are you trying to use the adapter and attach the mirror to the inside the the bar? If so, have you considered ditching the adapter and clamping them to the outside of the bar?

Also, a couple of folks have mentioned having problems getting their mirrors to stay tight. It's important what order you tighten those Allen bolts. Make sure you keep the bottom Allen bolt slack while you do all the tightening with the on positioned between the handlebar, or adapter, and the mirror. Don't tighten the bottom bolt until you have everything set they way you want it, and then don't tighten it much.

I have Renthals with LSL bar ends.
Mirrors are CRG bar OD clamp on type.
Pricey, but the optics are excellent.
Have had this setup for a few years now.
IF I was buying today, I'd check other options based on what I have heard since getting my stuff, but I would stick to the bar OD clamp type as compared to the bar end plug type.

MOTORCYCLE BAR END REAR SIDE MIRROR 7/8'' FOR YAMAHA X1 | eBay

These seem to be better made and larger than some of the round bar end mirrors.

Something to consider about the bar end mirrors. Depending on where and how you ride, these things can get you killed. An example is winding mountain highways with a lot of relatively high speed traffic. It can be very difficult to look down to keep track of the guy tailgating you, as well as keeping your head up to look through the corners, etc. Maybe other guys are better at this, but after i spent some time commuting Los Gatos to Scott's Valley via 17, I put the mickey mirrors back on.

That is another reason why I like the mirrors i posted. They are the same or near the same height as normal mirrors.
