Any info on a 919 redesign?

Hi guys,

I was wondering if any of you knew anything about Honda's future plans for the 919. Given its age, it seems due for a redesign.

Thanks.

You'll know in September, just like the rest of us. Honda plays its cards close to its chest. I would agree that it is long overdue, and, seeing as the 600 just got a major revamp over in Europe, I'm hoping the 919 gets some much-needed attention.

It would be cool to see a new bike, but if they don't use the 900RR motor it will lose a lot of the characteristics that I bought the bike for.

How do you figure?

They could use the superhawk or RC51 motor, the lump out of any of the fireblade series (1000, 954, 929), or build something completely new and still maintain the attitude of the 919. All it takes is the proper state of tune for motor and suspension to maintain the essence of the 919. Honda knows this business just as well if not better than anyone. I trust them to succeed if they revamp the 919.

I bet you're right. They could tune it down making me happy but pissing off all the magazine editors at the same time.

We'll have to wait and see.

My vote would be for the RC motor if they could produce it cheap enough.

If they build a new one i'll be really p'doff, because I'd have to go broke buying one or be mad that I didn't. Can't win.

Well I doubt they will change much. The lump is the most expensive thing for them to mess with, so at most i see a retune on the exisiting lump and maybe some more worthless changes like new paint colors and chrome bits. I just wish they would put better suspension on it. That alone would prompt me to get a new one.

Since I got my 954, I have been wondering why they dont use its Engine in an updated 9er, It wont step on the toes of the 1KRR, but its a great powerplant, it already has lots of bottom end and an awesome midrange. It is definitely an improvement over my 919, Its only maybe from idle to 2500RPM that the 919 was any better, and really the 954 is way smoother cruising at speed, less vibes. and its only slightly less comfy than the 919
It would seem to me that It wouldnt cost them much to strip a down a 954 Chassis an gussy it up as a naked bike, it wouldnt seem to take much but a few ergo changes and body work

Then you would have a Super Hawk, and not a 919.

I doubt they will sink any dollars into revamping the 919. This is a "niche" bike for Honda and the sales figures don't probably justify sinking money into new tooling. Look at the modern Magna. It has been sold basically unchanged for more than a decade.

Honda is a business and they usually put the dollars where they will have the most impact on sales.

Now if I were to get my way... it would be a 90 degreen twin lump and Honda would give it good suspension.

Justy, I feel the same way about my 929. The 929, 954's were awesome engines.

I put a set of HeliBars on the 929.... just got even better.

Yeah, I don't like the tail either. If it had a seat more like the 919 though, I'd be all over it.

So you like the Heli bars then? I am Considering as set of Heli bars and and a corbin passenger seat for my 954 to set it up for some sport touring with the fiance.

I still think that Honda wouldnt have to sink much money into a 919 update if they utilized all the 929/954 stuff they already have.
