another ohlins question

if i wish to know what ohlins fit. what is the difference between the shock type and part number.
for eg the s46dr1 will fit the 600 and 900 hornet, but the lenght of the 600 is20 mm longer and the stroke, 3mm longer, can these differences be dialled out manually or are they different animals.
i hope i have made this clear.

20 mm seems like a lot to dial out but it might be possible. The spring selection is also important. I would contact a local Ohlins distributor or a suspension guru familiar with Ohlins products.
