Am I on drugs?

So the other week I was surfing on ebaymotors for 919 parts when I came across this ad: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=330144790558. I emailed the seller to let him know he made a mistake on the year (not being rude in it mind you, sometimes people make mistakes, right?). It's obviously not an '04 based on color and the black engine parts, unless I'm smoking crack. Email exchange after that went as pasted below.....

"Listen Jackass I do this for a living what do you do? I bet you sell fat women?s clothes at Lane Bryant. The 10th character of the VIN number indicates the year in this case a 4 meaning 2004. If you need any further education in the art of Honda Motorcycles let me know, otherwise don't bid on any items I have for sale as I will not sell them to you. For my amusement please tell me what basis you used to come up with such a ridiculous statement.

Scott Bowers
[email protected]

P.S. What part of questions answered by phone only didn't you get."

My response:

"There was no need to be rude, I was only trying to help you from looking rediculous. The 919 wasn't red until 2006 and newer (unless its aftermarket paint, which you should annotate in your ad). I know this because I own a 2004 919 and I know the bike (better than you do apparently). In 2004 it came in silver and green in the US. If you did this for a living, maybe you should know your product better. Questions on that?"

Now this:

"After market paint, didn’t you say this was a stock Honda color in 06? This is probably my 30th or 40th 2004 919 that I have had in my shop and you are correct on the stock colors for 2004. This bike was purchased from Honda directly with red paint and has all documentation and a 1 year factory warranty as well. Your comment was on the year of the bike and on that fact you are completely incorrect. I understand loving your motorcycle and hanging in 919 chat rooms and thinking you know it all but just because I am a dealer doesn’t mean I should condone your ignorance and arrogance. I just sold that 2004 for $5999 but thanks for your input.

Scott Bowers"

Ugh...

I'd like to buy something from him just for the satisfaction of giving negative feedback. Or you could always send his response to his buyer

Meh. It takes all kinds.
I know it's tempting to flame on this guy, but in the long run, it's kinda like the clown jamming through rush hour traffic, alone in his own world. His time will come.
I say, shine it on. Be thankful this is the minority.

I plan to die young, as late as possible.

Wow, what a jerk that guy is.

He could have simply stated that info about the bike without all the excessive douche bagging and been done with it.

Also he should have stated in the ad that it was a special order paint.

The part about this whole thing that bothers me is how dangerously close his name is to mine! Change the B in Bowers to something else and you have my name! So for the record I am not that guy.

I am going to petition the console of Scotts to have him stripped of the name Scott he is giving us a bad reputation

i agree with everyone else, his time will come. and also if the bike has 3600 miles on it, how exactly is it's condition "new" rather than used?

Glad I did my research before I bought a 919. I was very close to driving out to a scammer... I mean dealership to buy a red '02 919. The sales guy on the phone couldn't tell me much at all about it, except that it was in good condition.
I looked online, found out they didn't come in red in '02, and said screw that!

Does CARFAX work for motorcycles? Bikes are pretty easy to total, there are allot of bikes out there with salvage titles.

Well as another Scott, I'm still in shock about what an ass that guy made of himself. Damn, and here I thought all Scott's were cool! Do you also really believe that he's had 30 or 40 '04 919's in his shop....in WYOMING?! We have the oldest Honda dealership in the US here in Indianapolis, Dreyer Honda, and I'm fairly certain they haven't sold 40 919's...EVER!

okay, so this guy is full of you know what.

1. As a former Honda salesman I know for a fact that a customer cannot order special paint from Honda. Period.

2. I doubt there is a dealer in the country that has sold 40 919's since 02 let alone 40 04's.

3. The red color wasn't available in Europe in 04 so it couldn't be an import.
(black, silver, blue).

4. The only way to get a red 04 is to paint the bike or buy the 06 parts.

If you really want to get even with this guy copy his response in an e-mail to the general manager at the dealership. I'm sure he used company e-mail to respond. Profanity and insults are a big no-no.

I don't buy it, if that's a 2004, it was probably damaged and they replaced the tank, tail and fender with 2006 parts (which I thought about doing with a black '05)...

Good advice Hornet, not sure how far Jockey wants to take his revenge, but as a former dealership Operations Manager (VW/Mazda/Subaru, but still the same concept) we would never have tolerated an employee treating anyone that way, let alone a potential customer who just happens to have the ear of several hundred motorcycle enthusiasts. Notifying the dealership GM most likely would take care of the situation. Or you could just chalk the guy up as the AssHat of the year and let it go at that.

Subject: Ebay customer service

General Manager; Maverick Motorsports:

I would like to inquire if you have an employee by the name of Scott Bowers. If so, it has come to our attention that he insulted a good standing member of our motorcycle forum by an email containing some rather harsh language, and comments that were uncalled for. It was made apparent by our member that he came across an EBAY auction for a 2004 Honda 919 claimed to be in red color. Our member then proceeded to email your online sales contact, and submit a correction for the color. He was replied to by a Mr. Bowers of your company with this response:

"Listen Jackass I do this for a living what do you do? I bet you sell fat women?s clothes at Lane Bryant. The 10th character of the VIN number indicates the year in this case a 4 meaning 2004. If you need any further education in the art of Honda Motorcycles let me know, otherwise don't bid on any items I have for sale as I will not sell them to you. For my amusement please tell me what basis you used to come up with such a ridiculous statement.

[email protected]

P.S. What part of questions answered by phone only didn't you get."

Ebay item referenced: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=330144790558

Can you please shed some light on this situation? We are members of a motorcycle and riding forum consisting of over 1,400 members of all riding backgrounds, and experiences. It would be a shame for the name of Maverick Motorsports to be associated with such a negative attitude, and poor customer service response. I look forward to your reply.

Regards,
James Allen

Heh...just seeing this post for the first time...funny indeed.

My favorite parts of the story are that a.) if you are correct (and y'are) it is a 2006, he probably could have sold it for more, and b.) that it has "919 ccs of power"...that's sweet!

My goal is simple. It is a complete understanding of the universe, why it is as it is and why it exists at all.

Ok,

Here's what I emailed to the GM below (the whole email exchange). There's really no need to be so rude, especially to someone who knows what they're talking about. This is why it rubbed me the wrong way....

Quote:
Jason,

It has come to my awareness that it has been brought to your attention the unprofessionalism of one member of your sales staff. Below is the email exchange that followed my emailing your company via ebay that the motorcyle listed was a 2006 or newer, not a 2004 (and therefore you would be able to make more money by selling it had they corrected the listing). I will forward you my original message as well. I think that you would agree with me that there is no need to be so rude and unprofessional to customers. Additionally, I am somewhat concerned with this individual's product knowledge. I am forwarding this to you because if I were you I would want to know how my sales people treat potential buyers' questions (especially over the internet where word travels fast).

I have posted this information here on a Honda 919 discussion page if you would like to comment: https://www.wristtwisters.com/forum/s...ead.php?t=6997 .

I look forward to your response.

The 919 not only did not come in red in 2004 in the US, but the brakes were not gold until 2005 and, engine parts were all the same color. The pieces they made black on the motor (valve cover, etc) weren't that way until 2005, in which year the bike was black. It has been candy red since 2006.

After market paint, didn't you say this was a stock Honda color in 06? This is probably my 30th or 40 th 2004 919 that I have had in my shop and you are correct on the stock colors for 2004. This bike was purchased from Honda directly with red paint and has all documentation and a 1 year factory warranty as well. Your comment was on the year of the bike and on that fact you are completely incorrect. I understand loving your motorcycle and hanging in 919 chat rooms and thinking you know it all but just because I am a dealer doesn't mean I should condone your ignorance and arrogance. I just sold that 2004 for $5999 but thanks for your input.

There was no need to be rude, I was only trying to help you from looking rediculous. Questions on that?

Listen Jackass I do this for a living what do you do? I bet you sell fat women?s clothes at Lane Bryant. The 10th character of the VIN number indicates the year in this case a 4 meaning 2004. If you need any further education in the art of Honda Motorcycles let me know, otherwise don't bid on any items I have for sale as I will not sell them to you. For my amusement please tell me what basis you used to come up with such a ridiculous statement.

P.S. What part of questions answered by phone only didn't you get.
