home now, got in a couple hours seat time and the broadcast did stay up longer than anticipated. looks like we were live from 5:45pm - 6:47 pm EST and then again 6:48-7:10pm...problems between 7:10-7:44 w/ the final shutdown close to 8pm
Just a quick chance to get out and take a break, needed one.
Logged just over 70 miles with much of it at 30-40mph.
Cut through Lebanon State Forest (now Bryendan Byrn...ugh), on out to the RailRoad Bridge, past the OffRoad Park and into Chatsworth. (one of the best places to live in the U.S. according to some magazine)
On out of Chatsworth and down torwards Bass River, passed a couple of 3 cruisers on the side, didn't slow down cause they seemed 'ok'. (wrong, more about that later)
A casual run down by some fishing holes, out to lake Oswego for an inspection of the new paving job. Then back out again and off to Leektown or New Gretna or wherever and that's when it hit me; sun's droppin' fast, temp below 60, open roads w/ triple digits available and I'm wearing mesh.
Time to haul out the lining. I had swapped on the Ventura High Mount Rack and lashed a BackPack to the rig so I could carry water/jerky/liner etc. My tankbag had the laptop/cellphone setup.
Pulled the bike off onto a sand road, cause I'm not afraid of it and checked the website, grapped a liner and had some jerky. That's when I heard it, some kid calling for his dog. Stepped out into the road and looked about a 1/2 mile down. Mom and her kids huntin up the family dog. Sad but true, these woods are full of them. Dogs catch and scent and Boom! they're gone. Here's hopin they were locals and not visitors. Local dog will find it's way back...non-local will wander and wander. I see them from time to time, wild dogs. Sucks. They used to run in packs back in the woods, less of them these days but they're out there. Out there w/ the coyotes, bear and a few other surprised folks don't expect to find in Jersey let alone the PineBarrens.
Anyway, some water and then it's back on the bike.
Heading back is a nice cruise through the cranberry bogs. I follow a car. (lead blocker for deer because i'm out at 0'Danger-thirty for deer)
Nice quiet relaxing ride home and then I see them, the trio on cruisers.
Having trouble pulling out onto the highway, problems getting underway, no signals, dark out, stopping in the middle of the highway, no hand signals, no turnsignals and one of them a new rider barely able to make the turn. Big expensive bikes, customs w/ fat tires. I hope they make it...but mostly I'm pullin for the kids to find their dog.
Real cool idea though Ratdog.
There are way too many boring live webcams out there. Imagine a website full of live riders' feeds to choose from. If you were handicapped, stuck in an old folks home, or your name was Midwest, etc. you could log on & cruise around virtually for a while. Viewers could send requests to riders from particular geographical areas like "Hey Rat - ride down past the old Greenbank school, I was a teacher there 40 yrs ago" or "Lemme see a live view of the Grand Canyon from the dash of a Niner".
