Sent the seat for my 9r out to Spencers today. Shipping the stupid thing was more than the cost of the mods. At least my ass will be happy

Damn! That sounds like something is amiss.

Yesterday I sent a pair of stock 919 cans weighing 18 lbs., UPS ground, and the total was only $11.

It's a fool who looks for logic in the chambers of the human heart.

Charged me on the size of the box. It was bigger than it had to be, but all I had that it would fit in. Next time I will just wrap it in bubble wrap and carboard.

What did you use? A box the size of a refrigerator? That sounds wrong to me. I think I'd go back and talk with a manager.

The shipping cost is what is holding me back from the Spencer mod, plus the transit time back and forth. I am interesed how it turns out.

It cost me only like $15 bucks or less using FedEx all the way from SoCal to Spencers in Florida. The size of the box is a huge deal, couldn't believe it. I cut mine down into a "custom sized" box .

I sure am happy with Spencers, it takes some breaking in, but otherwise it is nice. I may spend the money on a Sargent later, I like the looks of them.

UPS sucks. They wanted like $120 to garuntee 3 days each way.

The mod is awsome by the way. Spenser did a great job. I hope you sprung for the LD upgrade.

I will try to post up some pictures this evening if I remember....

I had him flatten the seat out some. It took off that angle which shoves you into the tank. That by itself was worth it!

If I forget maybe somebody else will have my back and post up some pictures, but I also just wanted to say that it looks exactly the same as stock. I almost thought he didn't do anything until I looked underneath and saw all of the shiny new upholstery staples. I have heard others say that their seat looked like it was more swollen then stock, but mine looks stock.

Well I changed my order a little.... I will have to pay a little for shipping (20$).
"Crow tastes like chicken"
I decided to have it sent to my house instead of pickup.

I went with black leather, no welts, no stitch, move rider forward 2.5 inches, and a "Nosejob", to get my feet on the ground eaiser.

I will let everyone know how it turns out.

Here are a few pictures of the seat. The seat will take a few tanks of gas to feel a lot better. Now I do not even notice the seat anymore. I am getting ready to send him the seat on the RC51 this week. The stock 919 seat is a feather pillow compared to the stock seat on the RC51. Enjoy your new seat.

I got my Corbin

A very large package was left at my door today. I was suprised to see it so early. I placed my order on the 27th, modified it on the 28th. The Corbin invoice was dated Oct. 2nd. and it arrived today; the 9th. Much quicker turnarround than I expected. It was very well packaged, and installed easier than the stock seat. Just one firm smack on the passenger seat to get it to lock. My first impressions are good. I decided to move the pocket forward, and lower the front for footing. See my previous post in this thread. My feet are flat on the ground and the small of my back is just supported by the top rear of the pocket. It feels pretty good! The seat is very firm.

I will post pics soon, and feedback after a ride. It has rained here in North Florida, and my new grips are drying on my new renthal road highs!

How exactly did you UPS your seat? Did you go to the website and print a label on your own computer? Did you take it to Kinkos or a similar place? Because the "shipping stores" will charge you for their "service". Did you take it to a customer counter? $85 doesn't sound right. UPS is getting expensive, no doubt. But, we remain competively priced. Have to. Fed Ex ground will undercut us by a couple of pennies, but their service sucks. The Post Office runs at a loss all the time because they have the federal government backing them.

Ok... the seat is back! Woo Hoo! Went for an hour long ride and already noticed a big improvement. I had him make it 1 inch lower and add the long distance option. He is an artist! Pics soon. I shipped it from a UPS "store". Still not sure why it was so much $.

Was the 1" lowering noticeable to you, not in looks but when you sit on it? Thats exactly what I am going to have done too. How is the LD option? Does it feel softer then stock?

The lower seat hight gives what I would call better "feel". More connected to the bike, more confident etc. The seat does have more "give" than stock but is not mushy either. More importantly, the "hot spots" I used to get are gone. It is also less angled toward the tank. It allows you to shift back some without sliding back into the tank all the time. I will give it the acid test tomorrow. I want to do 300 miles. Stay tuned.

My seat does great for hour rides, but when I rode 400-600 mile days, it didn't matter if it was a moded seat or not. I agree that he is an artist, and also a very nice and helpful guy.

Sure you're going to be sore after that many miles. It's a matter of degrees for me. In stock configuration, It would get uncomfortable after 20-30 min. After that painfull. After an hour tormenting. All I am expecting for long hauls is for the mods to take the edge off enough to keep going.

So, how much does this seat mod cost? And how long?

2003 Honda 919 - flapper mod, Clear Alternatives Smoke Tailight w/ integral turn signals, Stebel Nautilus air horn, DIY fender eliminator, LED license plate bolts, LED front turn signals, no resistor or new flasher so I blink like crazy.

The seat mod only took less than 2 weeks including shipping for me, and it costs less than $100. It cost me $75 with the "Long Distance" upgrade, which is well worth it. Also, I had him flatten out the seat, which also is a huge improvement by itself.

Shipping as you read can really take up some dollars. Be sure to fit it in as small of a box as possible, its amazing how much more they charge for larger boxes. I used FedEx as Spencer recommended, and it ended up being cheaper than UPS. It cost me less than $30 round trip for the box.
