919 --- Flapper mod. EVAP cannister. Seat-stand thingy. Front fender.

OK - my ( new to me) 919 has been sitting in the garage, thinking "dude, when are you going to do something other than change the oil?"

So my hit list was the freebie mods.

The Flapper mod seemed like the easiest to do... so I did it. Haven't ridden with it done, but we'll see. The hardest part for me was finding something to jamb into the hose.

Next up was the California EVAP cannister; good god did that thing look like an abortion just sitting there.
I followed the directions on this site... but one part of the instructions that seemed to stop prematurely was removing the hose that goes to the PCV --- why not pull that whole thing out? I started to do it, then noticed it has a little bridge between the two hoses so I stopped. But that's a big honking hose just sitting there doing nothing (???)

I think I tweaked one of the seat stands when I last put the seat on.
Is this common? How soft is the metal?
Compare the left seat stand to the right one... the left one is bent.

Lastly -- when I bought the bike two weeks ago, it was missing the front fender. I've got one on order (cheapcycleparts.com ), but it's on back order.
All I bought was the *fender*; the guy who sold it to me gave me two bolts to bolt it back on, but I'm afraid there might be additional hardware missing.
(The front brake lines are bolted onto the forks... I imagine this might be part of the front fender retention.)

When I de-canistered mine I pulled the all the hoses, solenoids, vacume lines and all then slipped a vacume cap on the source nipple and boxed everything up. I hate to throw any of that stuff away since you never know when the Socialist Republic of California will decide it's a great idea to start doing smog inspections on motorcycles, after all they started doing inspections on diesel pick ups this year.

For sure i'm not tossing the cannister.... if I ever need 2lbs of ballast i'll have it at the ready.

It really seems like that hose is sitting there for no reason.

I ordered part #4.
Would you assume parts #9 ('s) come with #4?

You can remove the entire hose, I think that coupling is in there to make it easier for them to add CA spec CRAP to a 49 state bike, I tried to remove mine as a complete unit and couldn't, had to sepperate the two halves and pull from each side. So go ahead and remove it all then put caps on whatever's been unplugged.

Remove everything then just put a vacuum cap on the fitting where #6 came off, good to go

in the Army shop manuals that would mean parts 9 are included with part 4 so i'd assume that's universal

your seat a bit hard to put on or take off or a bit loose? looks like the clutch side bar is bent some.

The seat comes off easily enough.

For whatever reason, I struggle to get it put on... i'm trying to be careful and help the "teeth" bite under the bars.

I think i'm overthinking it.

almost looks like the 1838 would work, maybe a few slight logistic problems, but what the hell, build one...

If you are interested, I've got the original fender off my 02. I think it still has the threaded inserts but I reused the other hardware when installing a F4 fender. I'ts in good shape and I'll make you a good deal.
