ZX12R Opinions?

Seems like lots of members here have a Blackbird and think of it as a great value. Around here, I could get an ZX12 for about the same as I could sell my niner (that is, decent unit for about $3.5K). They run for about the same as the Blackbird but for the most part have much lower mileage (many high mileage BBs around here, around 60K miles, compared to 12s in the 12-30k mile range for the same price).

Any opinions/experience out there on the big kawi? Personally, I find that the bike is gorgeous. Also seems to be a great value, has great power, and apparently is reasonably comfortable.

On the minus side, I hear that it is a bit hard to work on (especially compared to a niner), it is heavy (about 75 lbs more than the niner), and has a short fueling range. I don't know if operating costs are high or not on this kind of bike.

For those that have knowledge on the 12, how does it do around town? What kind of every day bike is it? Is it the type of bike that you can only have fun on when going 100 mph or is it a go everywhere / do anything type of bike?

I mostly ride around the city on local highways (to go to work) but when I can get away will do partial day trips on two lane highways and such. For the type of riding that I do, my head is telling me that the niner is a better bike. However, when I see and read about the 12, my emotions tell me that for the same price, this would be an awesome ride...

Anyways, let me know what your opinions are on this older sportbike.

I know a girl around here that rides one that's all tricked out( polished frame, more chrome than I care for, etc, etc). She really likes it and says it a very comfortable to ride with good power. She haven't rode it as much the last couple years as she picked up a new zx14. Motor is suppose to pretty bulletproof.

Did you ever try it?

This is an example of a 12 around here:

00 ZX12R Kawasaki Ninja - Excellent Condition | sport bikes | Ottawa | Kijiji

If I went a bit further, I could get newer, lower mileage and cheaper but with less upgrades:

kawasaki zx12r 2004 | motos sport | Laval / Rive-Nord | Kijiji

I never did try it, wasn't really interested sport bikes back then. She started out on a CBR600rr but found it way to cramped so she looked around till she found the ZX12(she's easily 6'1"-6'2"). I'd go take a look at one and try it on for size and go from there.
