New(ish) Bike

Well, I've been wanting to get something with clipons and a full fairing for a while, but money's been tight... Was about to pull the trigger on a 95 Katana 600 with a blown motor, when I spotted a 94 Ninja 600R on craigslist... Well, long story short, a week later it's sitting in my driveway. It's got a to-do list about a mile long, starting with the gas tank, since the previous owner thought proper preservation techniques involved disconnecting the lines and filling it with sulfuric acid(I know, right?). The seat's ripped, and going to get recovered, as well as the knee-panels, and the whole thing's going to get painted(No clue what color/scheme) and exhaust. Other than that, though, it's not terrible, just little stuff like levers and cables. For under 400 dollars though, I'm satisfied.

I'm kind of looking for advice on exhaust, if I should go custom or what to buy if not, that sort of thing. Also, I'm going to probably mess with the sprockets a little if someone can point me in a good direction to go on it.

I'll probably post pics/updates as it goes, but for now, I'm just diggin' the old school boxy-fairing look.

Sweet. I like older 600s. As far as exhaust it's probably whatever you can find. Don't think there will be too much on the shelf at a dealership or manufacturer. I hope you're kidding about the sulphuric acid, but knowing the brights on some people you're probably not.

Good luck.

Six months later, with an update!

I took the frame down to... well, the frame, and started slowly reassembling from there. The engine is shot, tons of metal in the oil/strainer and rod knock. It's been sitting since midsummer, since I haven't had time to work on it(got a second job, blah).

I have a question, though. I am in need of a new engine, and I found a 1991 Ninja ZX7 engine on my local craigslist. Does anybody know if that engine will bolt in? Or what I'll need to modify to make it work? I know my repair manual covers Ninja 600Rs and 750s, and from looking at pictures, it looks like it -should- work. Anybody know?

Husky - long time, no see!

After looking at pics of the 1991 Ninja ZX7, I'm leaning towards it not fitting.
The frames look different enough that mounting points & clearance could be a problem.
Even if it does work with the frame, it looks like the bike you're starting with is narrower - body panels might not bolt back on.

Although, for $400 it's tempting to wanna try it & see.

Yeah... after doing more research, I'm not coming up with much. I know that the older 750s, circa 1988 or so, appear to be a bolt in. But I can't tell if 1991 is a revised frame or not. I think I'm simply going to have to go out to the gent's house and have a look at it, eyeball if it'll fit or not. At this point, I'm getting desperate. I'm moving from Nebraska to Florida in less than two months, and the bike needs to be DONE or otherwise gone in that time.

Clearwater, going to be moving down the first week of december. I'm riding my 919, and a couple buddies are riding my Ninja(god willing) and driving my GTP and BMW.
