New Akropovic on the old girl

Who says old dogs cant learn new tricks. At almost 2 1/2 years old and 18,000 miles, I got full Ti Akra system for my 10R. It cost less than a grand delivered to my humble hovel and I stuck it on last week. Here is the start of the process:

We all know this to be the good mechanics secret weapon. It will come in handy later because I'm not a good mechanic.

Unless you take the long way around this job by removing the radiator, I suggest this approach to saving your fins. I thought of it after the second jab.

I was very surprised to feel the heft of this stock system. I can feel the weight loss with the Akra. It's pretty amazing. Now the old system is a garage "rafter-man" hanger queen.

This rig is sano and it is very lite. The sound is throughty(sp?) in the low to mid rpm range, and it is crazy wacko on full tilt. The loss of lo to mid range response is only evident during launch. The high end gain is scary, no lie. I'm gonna have to up the steering damper a couple notches because banging off the gears in full boil has the front tire skimming the ground. I can classify the acceleration in one word.....Rabid!

The map was for the full Evolution or Racing exhaust system with or without stock air filter. I borrowed my bud's Vaio laptop and got it loaded in a blink.

This was last nights job. I got an EBC 320 mm rotor and new pads for my KLR as the front brakes are kinda shiity. This is a full floater and a big mother fooker. Today I'll give it a workout. The next mods will be a fork brace, water pump guard, stainless brake lines and fork tube protectors. I am going to gear it with a one tooth larger countershaft sprocket and 2 tooth smaller rear to kick down highway rpm and give cruising options for both 5th and 4th gear.

Nother pic. (Yes, I went back into the garage and hooked up the speedo cable. I guess today I'll discover anything else I forgot)

Looking good there sir. Both seem like very reasonable mods from a very reasonable person.

Yes it's brand new. My guess is that it's a clearance of the older design.

You know, I bet I can do a forward flip with that new brake rotor on the KLR.

bigdaa, you'd be surprise how much you can get out of that Stock Exhaust on eBay. If you don't want to waste time on eBay and you don't want to hang it on yer garage, send it my way and I'll sell it to one of my Offshore Customers and we go halfs.

I'll keep it in mind. I usually sell off all the aftermarket parts seperately when the bike goes on the auction block, then put the stockers back on.

Or you may want to keep them in case you sell your bike and you want to put the stocker back on...
