Proper riding technique and suspension will net you much more bang for the Buck then getting max power.... Especially the proper riding technique.

Lets see...

To get the most out of your motor, open the throttle all the way?

That ZX10 has plenty of power. If you need more ponies, exhaust is the first. If you're serious serious, let someone who works on engines get in there and work some magic. $$$$$

Since you're racing, I take it your suspension has been properly tuned to your liking already? That should be a first.

are you for real? MAX power? I'd say you need to reach to about 88mph, that will activate the flux capacitor. Once there, 1.21 gigawatts of pure power will give you that MAX power you are looking for. That'll prepare you for the "track race" alright

Seriously, are you prepping for a track day, a novice road race, or a drag strip session ?
IF a track day or novice road race (and if a novice road race your question scares me as it suggests no track days experience) then keep in mind the following.
Your times will be a function of you, your chassis set up and your tires.
The engine won't even figure into the equation, other than too big with too much torque and power can easily put you on your head, keeping in mind the novice right hand tends to dial to much too fast too jerky.
Make sure your head is screwed on straight, keep yourself in check, run proper tire pressures for whatever tires you have, and if you don't know how to do basic suspension setup, and are actually going in a race as compared to a track day, look for a service provider to get you set up decent within the confines of the hardware you have.

Brother, you got more power there than you can use.

I have the 2004 ZX10R, and though I might be old enough to be your Dad, I've never used it to 10/10ths.

Have you ventured out on the track with your beast yet?

And BTW, welcome to WT.

Well, this thread has run it's course then.

Try it on the track but have a light throttle hand.
If you are as cherry as you sound, if you lay on it hard you are going to wad it and yourself.

You have a monster machine there. Many cannot do it justice even with their years and years of motorcycling.

On to your next contribution to WristTwisters!!!!!!!!

Yeah, practice some on the track and get used to the bike. You should be more worried about learning to handle the power it has as opposed worrying about adding more. More power isn't going to help you corner better. Going to the track and doing track days will. It will also teach you the difference between the guys who like to have a 200 horsepower Busa that lays over the moment it drags through a corner.

One other thing... Don't be disheartened buy guys on 50 horsepower bikes passing your ass up either, its called seat time and experience. It will be a while before you get a firm grip on using the power that bike has, and even then you are going to push it too far and get snakebit. The great riders started with zero experience. Get some seat time before you starting throwing even more money away on stuff you might not need.

1. Get into a Novice Track Day school and you will learn more in one day on the track than you will in 10 years of street riding.

My track students always end riding faster at the end of the day than new riders that opt out of the class.

2. Spend your money on suspension before power mods.

All that horsepower is useless if you cannot keep the tires in constant contact with the ground.

I was Lead Instructor for STT for several years and with that also ended up doing the Buell Inside Pass days and Kawasaki Days. I still do some guest instructing or control riding for various orgs as well as putting on our own trackdays here & there under the AE Racing Banner.

It would be cool to attend one of your classes. It's just an idea for now, but the guys that do the track days up here from WT might be up for a California trip + track day in 2014.

^ Huh, small world. I've done one of their track days last year at Portland International and might attend again this year towards the end of the Summer.

Not sure what the odds of it happening but if you ever find yourself up here doing The Ridge Motorsports, which I think is the showcase track for the area, let us know!

So LDH, what do we need to do to get you to come up to The Ridge on Sept. 7th and 9th? ....

You can teach me how to stay on my bike

EDIT: Ok Aybay also agrees. You should attend. You can even award yourself a WT medal for it.

+1 to everything Andrew said.

I like 2Fast, but for some reason it seems to attract more stupid and/or cocky riders that tend to crash more often and/or do stupid things that affect nearly everyone at the track.
