Honda CBR 954RR

A little help from the gurus, magi, and historians. I'm weighing the options. Had the itch to get something "clad" lately and been going back and forth between used CBR1000's and 600's. Then the 954 option appeared. If I wasn't soo cheap I'd buy the 08 1K, but I can't stomach the depreciation.
Previous owners, friends of..., and general Honda enthusiasts... Will the 02/03 CBR 954RR go down in history as a good bike, a Great Bike, whatever... Any known issues, etc. Any help appreciated- Appologies to any/ all whose time I have wasted.
In Service, TD

I always say the Honda 929 is a historically awesome bike. The 954 is even better. The 1000, meh... No thanks. Love the 954.

Consider the mileage and overall shape. Any abused bike is a pass no matter it's "Historical" value. The 929/954 series is a very good package worth considering. You are right about the depreciation. My suggestion is to take your time looking, because you can truly afford to find the one that tickles your innards. I would go the 954 route, just because you stand a better chance picking up the newer itteration with less miles and wear. They are very good bikes with plenty of punch.

I said I never had much use for one.

Its a great bike, but I'm biased as I owned one. More comfy than most, great power, light and very nimble, and great looking of course.

Don't have one, but my buddy used to. I was definately surprised when I straddled it. She will go and go, then scream for more.

Yeah, a good friend has one, it's compact like a 600, and it simply roars, very, very fast.

i might actually prefer a 929 over 954, not sure but i've heard the 929 is a little more street oriented. i'd love to ride them back to back, never have.

Thanks for the comments thusfar... keep it coming. I'm considering a local unit w/ less than 4K -He wants too much for it, more than most 05-06 CBR1000's . So, we'll see what the future holds.

Someone I grew up and ride with most sundays is quite well off, has property near Deals Gap and goes there often. His favorite bike is the 929. He leaves that at his home up there.
Bought a 954 when they first came out, traded for the first 1000RR, took them both to the Gap several times and prefers the 929 over both of them. He sold the 1000 and found another incredible low miles stock 929 for 3 grand several months back and loves it for riding here.
Now he has 2 929's, one here and one at the gap, yellow black combo's. He's about 5'10 220 or so lbs and wears Honda Racing Leathers to match. If someone ever runs into him there he knows all those roads like the back of his hand.

I had a Y/B '00 929. My nickname was The Bumblebee. My Arata full Ti turned it into one mean ass mo-fo screamer.

Yep. And they weighed the same as the same years 600... I mean, how do you even DO that? This should be in middleweight sportbikes section.

The 929 has a beautiful factory ti exhaust. Back then the 600s were considered a lesser bike quality wise. Not so today. The 929 really was a nicer bike than any 600 of the day. Mine weighs 440lbs full of fuel.
