Challenged a Muscle Rod

This might be completely foolish of me. I work at a Honda dealer, and today one of my coworkers came in on his day off, he's looking to buy a bike off of me, but he brought a friend. This friend was talking some smack on Honda's (which I'm used to, and usually let go). But after awhile of hearing how awesome Harley's were I fired back and after a little mutual trash talking, I was asked to put my money where my mouth was. Next thing I knew, I got myself in a bet racing a Muscle Rod. I know nothing about this Muscle Rod, except that it's God's gift to earth according to them. I have ridden a couple V-Rods, and know there's some power there. Anyway, down to the question, stock for stock who's going to have an edge. I have a completely stock VFR800 Vtec that I can ride fairly well. I don't know jack about this Muscle Rod, but it's owned by daddy, and not big mouth. They don't have much experience on that bike, or any bike. So...in an eight or quarter mile drag...what's my chances stock for stock. Or how modified does this Rod have to be to run me down if the inexperienced rider can't get off the line. I shouldn't have let my ego get me into this, but it'd be pretty sweet to get a video of my $4500 VFR tearing up this $13000 Harley.
You guys could just sit back and watch the show.

Looks like the Muscle Rod is supposed to have 122 HP and 86 ft lbs. Probably pretty heavy...but the viffer makes 109 maybe., and like 50 or so ft lbs........Harley's still suck, but he might have you.

He'll def jump you off the line with that torque and long wheelbase, maybe you could run him down at a longer distance. Sitting in a recliner position at 100mph doesn't work well......

I'm hoping to get it off the line and get into the VTEC and while they grab second I'll pull the lead a little. As I was sitting there thinking about it I was feeling smarter and smarter, that's a moving bike, even if it is a Harley.

It'll never happen. Odds are daddy won't let the kid near that $15k bike let alone condone a race. And if he's stupid enough to take it without daddy's permission, he'd be too afraid to scratch it to run it hard. You'll never see that kid again. The best response to that kind of trash talk is to ignore it and walk away. You don't have to prove anything - especially to a smart-mouthed punk kid.

Yeah def. this^^^

the V-rod is pretty surprising as well, HD finally realized what they could do with liquid cooling and some modern tech. LOL and most all Harley riders hated it. hahah

He'll probably wreck into you if he's as you described. Go the other direction on this one.

Porsche designed the motors on the Vrod IIRC. So much for their heritage idealism lol. You should be able to take that kid on skill but like I said, go the other way.

IF it happens try for the 1/4 mile. Longer distances favor bikes with less torque.

It's not all about torque and HP numbers, you have to look at the gearing and weight of the bikes.

You should be able to look up the 1/4, 0-60 times online and get an idea.

Having said that, I'd opt to take Ken's advice.

If you line up on his left for the race, just before the start reach over and flip his kill switch.

I agree with everything you guys said and knew most of what you were saying. Yes, punk kid and I'll never see them again. But it just got me curious. 0-60 are almost identical. I think I'd win just off experience but we'll probably never know. I would just enjoy getting a video for YouTube. Just a little knock at Harley. Hehe

+1!

If he's only interested in going in a straight line, his bike does have some power, but you have experience... throw in a few twists and you'll be gone!

Isn't there a Blade on the floor you can use? I rode a VFR a few times, no offense meant to any owners here, but I just couldn't see what all the fuss was about.
