Another bike........

Well it didn't last long with only 2 bikes, I'll be back to 3 bikes come this Friday. I just purchased another bike, a '06 GSXR 600 which will be used primarily for the track. Right now it's a street bike and in mint condition, never been down and low mileage. The guy selling it is a friend and needs money fast as he just bought a house.

My garage will now have a Honda (F4i), a Yamaha (R1) and now a Suzuki (gixxer6). It's safe to say that I'm not brand loyal and love all bikes!

So if anyone has tips on tracking a '06 gixxer6, then let me know and I'm looking for track skins as well for it!

I can say from seeing them in person, go with Attack Racing for the skins. Three guys at the shop went in and bought kits for their bikes. Very nice quality, and they were affordable. Way better than sharkskinz, or any other I have seen lately.

The stock 6 should already have a damper, adjustable rearsets, and USD forks, w/ radial brakes. Just slap some bodywork on it, and go rip everyone out there a new ass.

That won't happen, I still haven't got it back from moto!

It's used already, only on the street.
I wanted a more updated 600 for the track, I was using my 2001 F4i for the last 3+ years. It was only a couple of years old when I started using it on the track. I'll strip it of its street fairings, store those and just throw on track skins.

Sporte' - and now what becomes of the F4i? Seems to me like you now have an unneeded bike in the stable?!

Or is that going to be the backup track and street bike?!

Hows about some pics of the Gixxer6?

The F4i is my baby, I can never give her up.
She'll be the bike that I'll never sell, the R1 and gixxer6, well those can be sold and be replaced. The F4i has over 52,000 kms on it and is still going strong, plus I have so many good memories tied up in her. It's like my F150, I'll never sell that but my RSX, don't care for it.

Oh and there is no such thing as "unneeded bike"!

I get the bike tomorrow and I'll post some pics!

Well I got her home Friday evening finally!

I sat on the highway for over an hour at a dead stop on the way to get the bike. Our highway was closed due to a truck that went on fire blocking all lanes.

Anyway, the bike was definitely a DIRTY DITCH PIG!
Brought her home and spent hours cleaning her. The chain was disgusting, I don't think the original owner ever cleaned it but just kept adding chain goo to it. What I thought was scratches on the bike, most of it ended up washing right off.

I took the bike for a ride and this is what I have found so far.
Handling, so far it seems to be good, the bike feels a lot slimmer then the older gixxer's. The tank doesn't feel or look so big!
Power, I was a little disaapointed in this, at least in the lower rev's. The bike off the line and in low rev's doesn't feel as responsive even compared to my F4i. Not sure why, maybe it has to do with the stock rear sprocket which is only 43. Maybe someone here has some experience with this and knows something about this.

Attached is a pic of the bike I took Firday.

Sag the suspension for yourself.

I would look around for posted dyno's of people with that bike and aftermarket exhaust/Power Commander. That'll give you an idea of any low end you could get out of it. But your top end will still increase with that, making the increased low end still feel unimpressive in comparison. Buy an RC-51 and drop the bars.

That's what I used, always use kerosene, love that stuff on chains!

ragdoll, already talked to a guy who rents gixxers here for track days and this is what he said:

Quote:
yes the bikes are a real dog down low, mainly because of the tall street gearing. We go one down on front and three up on rear, and that is good for Shannonville and Cayuga. The lighter 520 sprockets and chain will help with acceleration too.

Most of our bikes use either the conventional Hindle slip on, or a full Hindle race system. The shorty/stubby mufflers that they have (as well as many other companies) are borderline too loud for Cayuga. Calabogie is
strict on noise too. Jsut an FYI, the stock computer has to be re-mapped
once you remove the stock muffler, and there is an exhaust re-circ valve that needs to be by-passed too. Otherwise the bike will run way too lean, and backfire like mad. Milton Motorsports has the top of the line Super Flow Dyno and they charge about $400 for the setup and the by-pass. The software that they use is called Suzuki TEKA, and there is absolutely no need to put a Power Commander on your bike (dotn let anyone tell ya otherwise)!

motorwerks919 if you pulled up on your bike with that chain, I would give you so much $hit!! Get a bristle brush (even a old toothbrush) and kerosene, you'll get rid of most of it but not all.

Thanks my2ndhornet, I plan on having lots of fun on it!

Tonight I go pick up the track skins, used but never been down track skins for super cheap.

Took this pic over the weekend after working on the damn thing for 3 days!
Steel braided brake lines, front and rear sprocket, new chain, oil change, flushed the rad, mounted the track fairings.

Realized that I need an after market exhaust (slip-on) cause I would have to hack the track fairings pretty good for the stock exhaust. I need it by Friday, anyone got any good leads where I can get one cheap and fast?

Nice bike.
Why? You actually like the blue rims?
Eventually I want the bike to be all black, black rims and black tank but it's a mish-mash right now cause the original street skins is the blue/white scheme. I was and I am still really not sure of the blue rims and blue tank with black track skins. But when you really think about it or at least the way I think about it, it's just a damn track bike! My last track bike was a mess and I didn't care, it had character!

I like 'em. They look good matching the body or not.
Body color rims would give my project bike that extra little something.
