Air Leak

Seems the 10R has developed an air leak under the tank somewhere. It happens after I ride for awhile. High pitch whistleing that is audible at tank level. Not looking forward to chasing it down as I'm gonna have to access the throttle body area while the bike is running and use the old mechanics 'rubber hose' stethascope. I do not think it is an interface problem in the intake tract but it could be. When I relieve vacuum on the gas tank, it seems to go away, however, I have only tried that after shutting the motor down and pulling the key to unlock the tank. Shutting the bike down might be temporarily ridding the problem. I can't imagine a hose being cracked, though I do have near 30,000 miles on the bike.

Pitch in if you got an idea.

Tank venting problem?? My cousin victory would whistle when the tank was full and left in the sun for a while, that was a venting prob.

As far back as I can remember the tank has had a vacuum on it. I don't know. I can't seem to find the couple hours to jack around with it. Heck, I'm on my way into work just about now. I tried pushing down on the cap when it was whistleing but to no avail.

I`m not a mechanic by any stretch, but if it only happens after you ride awhile, engine heat probably taking that long to heat up your gas and vaporize it causing the pressure build up causing the whistling, most people get the pressure buildup the lower their fuel level though, the lower the fuel level the easier it is to vaporize.

Saw this link on another site and its for a Kawi Vulcan. His problem was in the gas cap...dunno if its the same problem as yours ,but maybe worth a look.

Well, it isn't the gas cap assembly. I opened the tank with the spare key while the bike was running and making the noise, noise stayed. Looks like I gotta raise the tank.
