'03 R1 - Track Bike

Alright, I still haven't purchased a track bike and something else has come up, here are the details that I have so far:

- 03 R1 silver
- Ohlins forks/shock
- Graves Rearsets
- Full Akro
- bunch of other parts
- the motor has 3800km (2360 miles) on it
- was a factory bike, never been on the street

I can get it for really cheap, cheaper then buying a newer stock 600.
Do I really need a liter bike on the track? I was never considering a liter bike but this came up and the price I can't refuse............

Do you need one? No.
Will it help you become a better track rider? Probably not

Will it be incredible fun? YES!

Well, the one thing you WILL learn w/ a liter bike on the track is throttle control. I would say that is especially true w/ the R1's. My '00 was twitchy, and i've heard other owners repeating the same issue. You already have a street R1, how do you think it would be on the track?

They are a little snappy when the power comes on at the upper mid range. That's what makes it scarier. Highside city.

Anyways, I'm not helping.

Seeing as how it's already got the suspension work and the price seems good, I'd say go for it. You know you're capable of handling it, so why not?

The 03 is a good all around bike, not too edgy and a relatively smooth powerband. The 04 is when it got to be finicky, knife edge handling combined with zero percent stability followed up by a peaky, sky high powerband. Even on the 03 you'd better be happy with point and shoot because that's how it needs to get around.
