***FOUND 919 Project Bike FOUND***

I love to restore older bikes and the CB919 has grabbed my attention. I'm looking for a 919 in Texas that might need some repair and/or TLC. No major damage or locked up motors please.

I wouldn't think so either, but so far, nothing has shown up. I'm in south Texas near San Antonio, so bikes far away won't work unless the seller is willing to ship or deliver it here, which isn't likely. I'll keep looking, one should eventually come along.

Here is a candidate.
https://www.wristtwisters.com/forums/...9-a-66649.html

And shipping is not an issue. I just had a Ducati shipped to my door from Arizona for $400. I have the guys card at home if you want the contact info.

Thanks JPhilB, I sent him a PM about his bike. It looks pretty nice, even with 40K miles on it. If he is interested in selling, I'll get back with you on the shipper. I've never bought a bike from out of state sight unseen, how do you go about that?

Bummer. I would have offered to go look at the bike for you, take pictures and test ride it before you committed to shipping.

If there are any interested bikes in az Lmk. I'd be glad to help.

Depends on the condition of the bike and how much work it needs, of course, but I really don't want to go over $2500.

If you check the craigslist link I saw one in Arlington, TX last week that I posted a link on that said it needed headwork.. Posting was kind of dubious but if something has a blown engine its pretty easy to talk the price down some. I think they were asking for 1500. I'd offer them 900 and then go to ebay for a breaker motor to replace it with and skip the dubious motor problems because if I recall it had less than 5K on it. Was probably someones's wheel machine or something ridiculous like that.

Here I did the work for ya, lol 1000$ now, I guess they realized no one is going to buy a bike for 1500 dollars with a blown motor.

I know you said $2500 but if you spend just a little more you can get one that doesn't need work. Not sure where you live in Texas but a quick search found these bikes. https://dallas.craigslist.org/sdf/mcy/5432118070.html. https://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/mcy/5377065876.html. https://dallas.craigslist.org/ndf/mcd/5390458835.html. https://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/mcd/5390760997.html

Thanks rpcraft and redline919, I appreciate your help. I'm down in south Texas, quite a ways from Dallas or Ft Worth. I sent the fellow with the "just needs a head" ad 2 messages asking him exactly whats wrong with the head, but no reply. I'll definitely look into the 2 bikes up in north Texas. Thanks so much again for everybodies help on my search.

No problem, if you end up needing a hand with transportation I'll be happy to help. Might be a meetup halfway scenario or something similar.

Thanks so much for the offer Rob. i finally got a short response from the fellow with the 2007 that "needs a head' bike. He only said "blown head gasket". If that is all it really needs, that would be a fantastic buy at $1000. I wish somebody in the Arlington area could go actually inspect that bike and see what exactly is the problem. If it is just a blown head gasket, and not a blown motor, I will certainly buy it and take you up on your generous offer to help transport. Has anybody or can anybody go look at it? I'm highly suspicious though, why it is still on the market at that price and low mileage. Must be more than just a blown head gasket?

Given the age and the miles I'm a little skeptical it's just a blown head gasket at less than 6000 miles... I'm not saying I've never seen that happen... I'm just saying it's the first time I've seen it happen on a mule motor like the 919 has without their being some catastrophic cause. It's a proven lump. Honestly, like someone else recomended, i'd pay a little more for something that has fewer potential problems... Although, you could look on ebay and find a good 919 motor right now for under a grand that just needs some cosmetic parts and has less than 19K on it. You could possible use that Arlington bike for the clean covers looks like it might have.

02 07 Honda 919 CB900F Hornet CB Engine Motor 18K Video 2411 Light Damage | eBay

The upside is, if you don't like the color of something, having the engine out is a great time to start powder coating

There were no performance differences with the motor from 2003 to 2007.

My biggest concern over the bike would be the fact that it seemed to be missing a front brake rotor and really, why would it be missing that along with the other known issue???

This is soooo not in Texas, but you can spend up to $650 shipping it and still come in under your budget! 2004 Honda 919 branded title

I know the seller. He's kind of a lovable jerk, I guarantee you he got that pile for half what he's trying to sell it for, but he does love Hondas and I'd believe him that it's a decent runner. No idea wtf is up with that centerstand...

Fine, I'm adding a signature, leave me alone!

A little advice on the 919. It is a money pit! You are far better off finding one that doesn't need work. Not only will you have to repair it and buy new body work and a tank like the one just posted above. You will probably also need tires, brakes, change fluids etc. Plus shipping. Which will put you way over your budget. Then there's the mod bug! Which is where you can really go upside down on your funds. This is also money you will never see a return on when you do sell it down the road.

Thank you derpydog for the referral, I sent the seller a message asking if will ship the bike to Texas. Also much thanks to redline919 on your very sound advice, you are so right about the costs of restoration, it can escalate quickly. My hobby is restoring older bikes, so I generally look for one that needs some TLC, not major overhaul. With the 919, I'm not finding that situation, they either need major rebuild or need nothing at all and are very nice. Thanks again to everybody who is trying to help me find a good buy. Why are the good bikes always on the other side of the country, miles from home?

I made an offer on the really nice 2006 CB919 in McKenny, but haven't heard back yet. He will ship it to me for just $300. I hope he takes my offer, but if he doesn't, I'll keep looking. I didn't like the one in Seattle because of the broken off motor mount, looks complicated and expensive to fix.

FOUND ONE. Thanks to everyone who contributed their offers, thoughts, ideas and recommendations in my search for a CB919. I bought a 2007 with only 4500 miles on the clock. Not a project bike by any means, but just too good a deal to pass up. I'll post pics when I get delivery. I can't wait to ride it. I'll be needing a center stand if anybody has one laying around they don't need.

Glad you found one! Newer and fewer miles than mine, too.

Of course, with mine you'd have gotten a center stand...
