Selling my '03 919...

I've decided to part with my 9er.
It has only 5000 miles on it.
Completely stock except for integrated tail light, Honda flyscreen, and rear rack.
Immaculately maintained. Only drop was in the driveway!
$4500.

Got the green light from my dear, dear husband for a new bike.
Went shopping yesterday.
He said that if I was going to have a mid life crisis, I might as well have it while I was young!

What do you want your bike to do for you? Torque or HP? Weight limit? Seat height? Commuting? Touring? Shaft or chain? I'm sure we can help you pick out a new bike!

Well, I will probably end up selling the sherpa if my dh can get the Yamaha back together and if he will let me have it for off road.
So, a midsize sport, naked, smaller than the 919.

This is what I checked out yesterday:

That little Monster just had a GREAT review in this month's Motorcyclist. They liked it better than the big model.

You want me to bring the SV650 next week for a test ride? It's a fun little scoot for cheap money.

We just got a new Ducati dealership in Indy, was up there last week salivating over the beautiful Italian rides in the showroom. They had a Monster 695 demo with 600 miles on it for about $7000, looked like what used to be called the Monster Dark, all blacked out with 919 style flat black paint. Cool bike!

I do have to say that our little 599 is a blast as well, but I guess if I were going to buy something new and unique, it would be the Ducati.

This is the one that caught my eye...http://www.ducati.com/en/bikes/my200...ESTASTRETTA-07

That S4RS is a awesome bike with all the bells and whistles. That said; a friend had one that gave him so much trouble he finally sold it, but that is another story.

IMO: I would stay away from Ducati unless you have another backup bike to ride. Reliability, easy to obtain parts, and high cost of maintenance has always scared me off.

I know. I know. They are just so purty.
Everyone I know gives the SV650 high marks. But after my disaster with Suzuki and the V-Strom, I'm not sure if I have forgiven them yet.

Still open to all suggestions.

For perspective, please tell us details?

Head to head the Suzy is going to be way more reliable. That's why I nearly bought the SV1K instead of the 9r, until I realized it was less suited to a rear passenger.

My '07 V-Strom was bought back by Suzuki as a lemon. Less than 200 miles on it and it would only run on one cylinder.
I had to get a lawyer to deal with them.

Thanks, now I understand how you got burned. So like me, you appreciate reliable and low maintenance bikes. How about a CBR600RR?

I believe the parallel 650 cc twin motor is the same one Kawi used in the W650 a few years back. If it is, to sum up the performance: GUTLESS!!!
