81 Yamaha Maxim 550

I have a 1981 Yamaha Maxim 550 for sale. Inline 4 cyl. chain drive. 14,xxx miles.

I bought this bike a few years ago for my GF to ride but now it doesn't get much use.

When I bought it, the bike had sat for 15+years. I cleaned the carbs, replaced tires, repaired the brakes, and got the bike in good working order. It has since sat in my garage for a year or so and needs attention again. I don't have the time to repair it or ride it.

It will start and run, kind of. The carbs need attention again. I think #3&4 carbs are leaking and i can hear it sputter. The tires are new, 1.5 years old, and less than 1000 miles on them. The paint is the worst part. It's rotted and pitted with rust. I was planning on a paint job but never got around to it. Also, the front brake will need rebuilt. Probably going to need a master cyl rebuild and new line.

Generally, it just needs some love. If you're looking for a smaller beater or something for beginner, you could have a decent bike for relativity cheap and a few man hours. I have a handful of extras like brake pads and random parts for it.

I was looking to get $1K for it but I want it gone. Let me know if you're interested. If someone on WT wants it I'm sure we'll work a deal out. I have clean title in hand.

I'm in the Cleveland Ohio area if you want to look at.

If only you were closer to Texas! I want something between 450 - 600cc cruiser style for my wife to start on. This would have been perfect!
