Suggestions for the Webmaster and General Improvements for Wristtwisters

Hello to the community I have come to cherish. Driving home from work tonight I thought wouldn't be great if our site had some other capabilities or enhancements. I'd like to create a sandbox for new ideas or suggestions for the site. A place to discuss and maybe Jetblast10 will reward with a few casino bucks for implemented ideas. This is NOT a place for negativity...

1.) Would be great if we could comment on video of the day
2.) Would be great if the video of the day changed often or could be changed by members
3.) Would be cool if the members profile page had more information or resembled a facebook/myspace page to learn about others.
4.) Would be great if uploaded pictures were full size
5.) Would be great to have place just for motorcycle specs, dyno charts, micro fiche or manuals. It would be like a wikipedia built by the members. Build it and they will come.
6.) Would be cool to integrate more trip planning links or apps from other sites like maps, hotels etc.
7.) Would be cool to have Suggested Trips taken by members listed by states. That would build up a library of places to visit.
8.) Chat room maybe
9.) More new funny emotion icons with sound!

great feedback! Appreciate it very much.

I read your PM Simpson and have to tell you how much I look for feedback. The Moderators and I are always looking for ways to improve things so thanks for some great suggestions to work with.

The video of the day is a fixed code that's on the front page. But I have an idea that might work out and I'll try it in a few minutes and report back. Need some coffee before I start coding.

Suggestion 1:
I created a new section under media to hold a library of the featured videos. Each featured video will be a thread and you can comment as usual there.
On the main page I created a link to tunnel you right into that subforum.

Suggestion 2:
If you find something you'd like to see there just shoot me a PM with the place to find it. Youtube based videos are best. The main page isn't gui friendly and requires coding (both html and php) - there's no good user interface that'll allow members to just post there. Besides even if it did allow that, I see you posting a video and then 10 minutes later someone else overposting yours and nobody got to see the first one.

Suggestion 3:
Looking into what hacks are available, might be a little limited here but checking it out. Some user fields are editable so that might be an option, let me know a few specifics on what more you'd like to see.

Suggestion 4:
This is a mixed bag, choose the lesser of 2 evils kind of question.
We could set the permissions to display full size images. That's easy, but sometimes images are fairly large and I'm really relaxed on the image size of what we can upload, larger than most any forum I know. So a member uploads a large picture, then every member who clicks into the thread gets hit with that large picture. Bandwidth consumption could rise as well as large pictures can throw off the pagination of the text, borders explode out the sides and the text alignment looks terrible.

More thoughts to come...

Great suggestions, Simpson!
I've always wanted an easy way to see where everyone is from. There have been several times when I have wanted to ask a question about a specific location.

Suggestion 5:
Love the idea. Looked round trying to find an example somewhere but came up empty. Let me know what inspired this line of thought so I can see an example to base it around.

Suggestion 6:
Simple enough, trip & planning resources are out there. Send me the links to your favorites and I'll put them in the Touring Waypoints / Touring Journal forums.

Suggestion 7:
Have that already in the touring journal. Problem with going "by state" means creating 50 subforums, that's just bulky. Perhaps some search refinement would get the job done, like advanced search for Kentucky targeted at a specific forum. Just not sure this can become granularly organized without becoming cumbersome at the same time.

Suggestion 8:
It's built into the code so it's a click of a switch to turn on, tried it on 600rr.net result = failed, under-used didn't justify resource consumption. Tried it on 1000rr.net result = failed, under-used didn't justify resource consumption.. Tried it on floridasportbikers.com = failing, under utilized, didn't justify resource consumption.
Chat sounds nice, but in actuality it's rarely used because it's mostly real time and that's not convenient for many people. The streaming does eat up server resources also. Just don't see it as worthy imo.

Suggestion 9:
Happy to add smilies, need to make a master smilie pak one day when I've spare time. If you have ones you'd like immediately just shout. Audible smilies isn't going to happen. I can picture someone scrambling for the volume button at work while an audible smilie screams profanity.

For suggestion #7, you could break the US down by region. Have a Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, Rockies, West Coast, and Alaska forum. Then I'd have a place to post all the wonderful Alaska trips I have planned...
