Let's set the record straight here: the issue isn't whether the forum is free or not, or how to pay for the forum. The issue here is that external links are leading traffic away from the forum in addition to crap being posted that a lot of times have nothing to do with the forum it self.

Multiple members have commented or expressed concerns about the future and well being of this site. Enough to the point that the tech admins say they are listening and will take feedback but is more akin to talking to a brick wall. The WT app for example. The bottom line is this: we are the customer base. The site exists because of our passion for the site. I want this site to grow!

Those of you moaning about socialism and freeriders have missed the point entirely and are too quick to judge from your own bias. People have been trying to have a conversion about how we can make this site better and viable for the long term future. Those who have mentioned it just want to have a say and be heard. Don't tell us we're being heard when nothing's changed and disciplinary action is threatened. So if you think that reporting what is technically considered spam as an abuse of the system, then you HAVEN'T been listening to begin with.

Let's actually talk about how we can make this better instead of demonizing each other and fracturing this community.

No you are 100% incorrect. This site exists so a conglomerate can extract advertising revenue from it and they have figured out a way to do that with or without you or me or anyone else for that matter.

Believe that.

The days of this site existing to extol the virtues of your favorite motorcycles disappeared many many years ago. Be grateful you had a free ride for as long as you did. If you want to get back to that then find a new site that is not controlled by VS or build your own and maybe they will come. Me personally, well I helped build this site in its infancy and drove the traffic to it so I am just happy they keep the doors open and the lights on. I cannot really ask for much more nor do I expect it.

So true! I was like "I never see ads on the forums."

I totally forget I have adblock running. What a great thing it is.

Also, speaking of spam threads, I think this thread is now entering that territory...

Hey everyone,

I have read all of your posts, and understand all the sides of this argument.
But as stated by Kyle, and re-iterated by some other users in this thread, if you guys do not like the posts make by motorcycle.com, give us suggestions on what you would like to see.
Maybe if we post the blog article in the thread as well as put a link, that way we all win?

I want to hear some suggestions guys, we want nothing more then for this site to keep on growing!

Richard.

Hi Richard, thanks for reading and taking the time to respond. That's very cool. I have a few ideas but also some questions:

would it be possible to somehow reroute some traffic back to WT from your blog? Perhaps advertising WT in some way? I hesitate to ask this though because I don't know how many other forums you run and don't want to end up with forums competing against each other.

Who writes the blog and how often? How are topics decided?

I have a few other questions as well but will hold for now. Thanks again.

Posting the blog article (or at least most from what I've seen) makes me feel better about it. At least it doesn't feel like the same old 'click bait' bullshit I see on Facebook.

Driving traffic back here as Pvster stated is a cool idea. I know MC.com doesn't read many of the treads on their own forums... but if there was a way for topics/threads on on say WristTwisters.com (or any MC.com forum) to be featured on your blog and direct traffic this way as well, it seems like a win-win-win situation.

For example, MC.com posts some topic that directs me to the MC.com blog and from there I see a featured post on say 'Bike won't start after using NOS fuel additive' from gixxer.com. I'll probably head on over there to check it out increasing traffic on more MC.com owned sites. I'm sure there would need to be a process figured out to do this, but it should help drive revenue for the owners while also driving traffic to some of the lesser known MC.com owned sites.

Is there any way that Nick Ienatsch's "Ienatsch Tuesday" could be woven in, or have I misunderstood what is intended as being acceptable posts from outside of WT'ers?

I really don't know what you and everyone else is crying about. You yourself said you use the WT app. Why cant you just ignore the posts made by motorcycle.com? Its really that simple. No one is making you click on their threads. There are no pop ups or ads with the WT app. So you are basically complaining for no reason. If you do click on something, you can't find your way back??? As far as what they are posting. It's all motorcycle related and they own the site, so Wtf is the big deal? Just ignore it and focus your energy on something that actually matters. Or actually contribute something instead of complaining all of the time. That would make this site a better place. Just think of the new traffic that comes here and sees people complaining about the site at the top of the recent threads. That alone is doing more damage to it's reputation than a few ads that can be easily ignored or blocked. If I was a mod I would delete this useless thread about people complaining about something that is free as it is doing more damage than good. News flash. The site needs revenue to stay alive. So the ads and "spam" are fine with me as long as I get to keep using this forum to learn from.
