New site look and software upgrade Feedback Thread

Hello Everyone,

We're proud to announce that the new site look and feel has been completed for WristTwisters.com! Our designers and software engineers have been hard at work on this for several months. It's designed to modernize the site, make it easier to use, and to make it more attractive to new members and guests that visit .

The forum software we use, vBulletin, by default is not designed to be friendly to the eyes or to look modern. We went down to the nuts and bolts of the forum software and templates, and have done a ground up approach. There are several things you will notice now that the new design is live.

1) The site should be significantly faster.

We have applied every modern technique to speed up page load and tested with all modern browsers. We want the forum to be extremely fast and easy to use.

2) The site will work much better in mobile and tablet views

We've started applying responsive design, and have designed and tested against android and iPhone devices, Android tablets, and iPads. If you are sitting at your desk or on your couch, or just on your phone, the site will work much better than it did before, and load fast. We are still working on improving the experience even further in the months to come, but we wanted to launch this as quickly as we could.

3) The homepage is bright, crisp and clean.

We wanted the first page users saw to look beautiful, so that when a new guest arrives and is debating whether to join WristTwisters.com, they see a beautiful doorway, and they walk right in.

As a forum member you can choose to use the new design (which is on by default) or you can go back to the old design. We ask that you give it a chance and see if you like it. Like anything new, it will be unfamiliar at first, but we suspect that the speed difference will make you want to use this new one. If you do decide to switch back, the link is at the bottom left of each forum page, you pull down and select the theme called "WristTwisters.com Classic".

4) Garages will be featured on the site

You can show off your Bike, You can post pictures in your garage and share it with others. Make sure you post up some images to share with the community at the link below.

Wrist Twisters - Manage My Garage

5) Users will be able to register with Facebook, Twitter or Google+

6) The side bar can be hidden in your user options.

Click on my profile / user cp at the top right.

- click on edit your details on the left.
- Look for Show Sidebar on Forum Pages under Additional Information.
- Click disable and save.

7) Another new great feature is the @Mention user plugin. You can tag members by simply using the @ symbol.

8) Drag and Drop image uploader

We hope you enjoy it, and if you have any questions on the design, please let us know, feedback is appreciated.

If there are any issues you see. Post them up here and we will get them worked out.

Thanks,
-Your WristTwisters.com Team.

Yeah, I'm going to go with 'this software upgrade is half-baked and not properly tested.' Why? The Quote button functionality is *broken*.

Below is what I get in Firefox 40.0 and later when hitting the quote button in any post - instead of popping up a quick reply box below the post, or putting the quote in the quick reply box at the bottom then taking me there as most other forum software does, it takes me to a separate reply screen. Worse, the text box on that reply screen is squeezed down to one side of the screen, leaving tons of blank space. This is repeatable on any machine running Firefox. How did this get through testing???? Pics are clickable for higher resolution - if you didn't break that too.

While we're at it, why is there no cancel/skip/go the hell away button for this crap at the top of the forum list?

Yep, I hear that alot and it is in the works for Ver 2.0 of the release this fall.

For now you can go through the motions and click save to exit out of it. You can go back and edit or remove the actions after it clears.

I just am testing Quote in Chrome with no issues, will try in other browsers.

Note there is a difference of "Quote" and Quick Reply" and their functionality.

Testing in FF and hit Quote and I get the expected action.

I think you are referring to "Quick Reply"

@CB700S - you are able to grab the reply box corner and drag it right and down as far as you want to avoid the space since it looks like you have the sidebar turned off.

Why was this not in 1.0? Even scummy computer hijack software *ads* have close buttons now, who thought forcing this was a good idea?

Yeah, you need to test in Firefox and other browsers, not just Chrome.

If you want to see how one of the largest forums on the internet does it, go join forums.finalgear.com and see how their quote/multiquote/reply post footer buttons work.

In fact, I'll save you the trouble and append pictures.

Here is the topic page with a post at the top.

This is what happens if you hit the Reply button, which is really a 'quick reply to this post' button - a Quick Reply box appears between the post you are replying to and the next post. A text cursor appears in the box and the user may begin typing immediately.

This is what you get if you hit the Reply With Quote button:

And if you hit the Reply To Thread button at the top or bottom of a page, it takes you to the quick reply box at the bottom of the page.

As it is, I don't feel that this new upgrade is in any way an improvement over the old software at this point. You've made the interaction controls worse, the reply/quote functionality is still something from the last decade and now we have mandatory BS at the top of the page. I've been a MO subscriber/poster since the 90s and this is not at all up to the standards of your parent organization.

You mean the sidebar that disappeared with the new upgrade that I don't see where I can turn it back on? That sidebar? Yes, I realize that you put that up at the top in this thread, but why should a user be required to read this thread to find out where that control went?

Also, there are no drag handles on the reply box corners, nor does dragging it as if there were handles seem to work. Would you like a video of it not working?

Bravo, must be a FF thing, we will look into it.

UPDATE:
Checked with Dev team and it is true FF doe snot allow to scroll open the text areas which sucks, not much we can do unless we rewrite the plugin which most likely won't happen.

So you do not see the option nor are able to toggle the sidebar here:

6) The side bar can be hidden in your user options.

Click on my profile / user cp at the top right.

- click on edit your details on the left.
- Look for Show Sidebar on Forum Pages under Additional Information.

Understood, give me some time to debug stuff with the team, we always run into little issues that pop up with so many different variables in software, devices, and plugins.

I mean you did Capt Kirk slap me which is pretty aggressive in forum banter. I had to defend my honor.

The Kirk slap is actually fairly mild by WT culture standards. If you didn't know before, WT is a fairly aggressive forum.

Yes, I saw that in your post, but the thing is there's nothing on screen on the forum list, in a thread view or on a reply screen to indicate that the sidebar is even an option any more. For all Joe User who hasn't read the thread knows, the sidebar is gone or there isn't even an option for it.

The sidebar should be default on and the option is there to turn it off. If Joe User no read the thread I guess he gets sidebar.

The good news is that the element pestering me to complete my profile does go away if I upload an image.

The bad news is that this is what replaces it. It won't go away from the forum list page no matter what I do.

Not only does it keep congratulating me on completing my profile and offering to allow me to edit it, there's also a picture of a horrible Italian POS car on it. Neither can apparently be dismissed, reloading the page or going to a forum and then back to the forum list by clicking the WT logo at the top doesn't make it go away either.

There's no option on screen to turn it on and I *didn't* turn it off. I haven't configured anything but the garage and avatar (and that only to make the stupid header over the forum list go away) since the 'upgrade.'

It looks to me like the default is 'off', not 'on.'

It looks to me like the default is 'off', not 'on.'
May I suggest something called Chrome?

But I assume with your already displayed technical knowledge you are a loyal FF user and refuse to switch teams.

@CB700S - also you are are not happy with the changes you are more then welcome to revert back to the classic view until we get this issues sorted if possible.

"As a forum member you can choose to use the new design (which is on by default) or you can go back to the old design. We ask that you give it a chance and see if you like it. Like anything new, it will be unfamiliar at first, but we suspect that the speed difference will make you want to use this new one. If you do decide to switch back, the link is at the bottom left of each forum page, you pull down and select the theme called "WristTwisters.com Classic"."

Well, I say bought one. He's actually on his third one. The first two got lemon lawed.

A secretary at one of my clients has a 500 Gucci edition. I think it's been in the shop more than she's driven it in the past year. She was also one of the people who had the door fall off which prompted one of the recalls for it.

As more users upload you will see more garages there besides my lonely car.

That's fine, but why does it need to keep congratulating me on completing my profile and offering to let me edit it?

For that matter, there should be an option to not have to see the garages/photo collections at all - I didn't like that feature on the old software but it was okay because there wasn't the BRIGHT GREEN BUTTON offering to let me edit my profile.

One of the only reasons Chrome has the apparent market share it does is because it's the default install for Android devices.

I'd also point out that the Flash implementation in Chrome is not 100% compatible and breaks on a regular basis. Many of the tools I have to use for work are Flash-based.

But hey, if you like giving your history, usage stats and everything else that Chrome cheerfully and openly ships back to Google, be my guest.

One more thing - I work in IT for a living. One of the things I insist on with web-interfacing software is basic functionality testing with *all* of the major browsers - IE/Spartan, Chrome, Firefox and *especially* Safari. Safari users are the most likely to buy a product (like, say, the Premium offering I see there at the top of the forum list page?) and are often willing to spend more than other browser users. They have the highest sales per click in terms of percentage and sheer dollar amounts. It looks like you guys don't believe in that, though.

Yeah the 2012/2013's had tons of issues. I have a 2014 with some minor bolts ons and around 7k miles since I live in the city with no issues to date. However they are a very rough 7k of red-line and various Hoon activities. I do miss my 03 Kene Bell Cobra my my SRT Ocho Jeep that had real power, but I do not miss paying for gas in those.

Once other post up images I believe that green "Good Job" notice will go away.

In your own quote, you asked people to give it a try and asked for feedback elsewhere. Careful what you wish for - because you're getting it. I'm giving it a try and giving you feedback on all the broken things. :P

The ones that were lemon lawed were 2014s.

I just went and checked. My sidebar setting is on and has been set to on since the update, but there is no sidebar on any page that I can see - and you've seen the screen shots already.

So, where's my sidebar?
