Attention - Password and Security Update

Hello all,

Over the next few days we will be implementing some changes to our forum password strength and password expiration policies. To make sure you continue having the best experience possible on the community, we regularly monitor the site and the Internet to keep everyone's account information safe. We've recently become aware of a potential risk to some accounts coming from outside of this community. Just to be safe, we are implementing the following changes to improve security even further:

1) We are asking everyone to change their passwords (and will force a one time reset). Along with every user on the forum, new passwords will need to be more complex, and can't be simple words (sorry, you can't have "fluffy" as your password anymore!). Please use a password unique to this community. Reusing passwords can expose your account indirectly when other websites (Twitter, Linkedin, Badoo, etc) are compromised; and

2) Your passwords will expire on a 365 day basis. When you login on the 366th day, you will have to change it.

We'll also be sending out an email to users to let them know about the changes, in upcoming weeks.

Thanks all,

Helena

Ok, since I can't start a new thread and I can't reply to the Help Desk thread (hoping this thread even lets me post), can someone tell me what has changed in the last few days?

I get this EVERY time I try and quote a reply:

Oh, and forget about the advanced mode for a new post. It just hangs.

Tried in both Chrome and IE, with and without Adblock on. Result is the same.

I've had the same issue... After I click on the dead page a few times chrome says something about a long running script and asks if I want to wait. As soon as I click wait the page loads and let's me write my message.

I just assumed it was the Internet since its been slow at work lately

Is this going to be one of those things where I have to go through the hassle of trying to remember or find my current password just so I can change it?

I have not tried clearing my cookies etc. will try that now. I'm on a windows 7 PC running google chrome. I've attached the error message I'm getting. It doesn't matter how many tabs I have open, and as soon as I click "wait" the page loads and works fine.

Hey there,

Currently there is no option from the app to change your password.

When you receive your email, it will open in your browser. You'll have to exit the Enhanced Mobile view and open the Full Version, then visit your User CP to update your password.

True. Whats going to finish the other half is when users click on the link via email...and it wont work because it defaults to mobile view.

That, or since I was smarter than the average user and just changed my password the system will still force a reset because...well...who knows

I may not have a lot to say but it doesn't mean I don't listen.

Can you just set up 2 step authentication with Google Authenticator? With this whole Anonymous vs ISIS thing I don't want my WristTwisters account to be compromised allowing someone to post stuff in my name.

Because it's likely going to be weeks before the uncommunicative and unresponsive idiots at VerticalScope get back, let alone fix the problem, here's their password criteria off another VS site.

Un-F'ing believable, my bank doesn't even require this level of encrypted security, I'm NEVER going to be able to remember all these "special" characters, big letters, little letters numbers, it's just a forum for Gods sake

Again, doing the job @Tech Admin can't or won't do here:

Once you log in, click the User CP link at the upper right of the page, then click the Edit Email & Password link on the left column of the User Control Panel page that results. That will take you back to the password change page.

It's not intuitive at all, but you need something with lower and uppercase, as well as "special characters" and possibly a number. I just kept trying until all check marks were satisfied.
