50 Tips For Riding A Motorcycle Across America

Quote:
Riding across America is the dream of many motorcyclists. The notion of traversing the U.S.A. on two wheels has a certain romantic aspect; 4000 miles unspooling before you like reels of an old, epic film. A lone rider and his/her machine, dusty and stoic, sharing tales of the road with strangers at every stop but never lingering in one place for more than a meal or a nightís sleep.

Unlike some things in life, the dream is not let down by the reality of actually doing it. Every ride across America is special Ė Iíve done it four times, and each trip provided unforgettable moments, the types of peak experiences we all long for when we get on a motorcycle. Still, thereís a lot to consider when planning a coast to coast trip: Do you use your own bike or rent one? How will you get your motorcycle back home when the rideís done? What are the essential items to bring? How much time should you allocate, and what route should you take?

Those are some really good tips for the long haul for sure. Didn't think about throwing clothes away on the road.. And also a camelbak or hydro pack is huge on a long haul.

View this forum with adblock disabled and you won't mind these. PS what is the compulsion to read and comment on them if you think they are "spam?"

Anyone who doesn't want to see these posts can just click on the motorcycle.com name and select "Add motorcycle.com to my ignore list". Much easier than ranting about it.

I agree 100%. They may be good tips, but it's just another shameless plug for their website.

Done and done. It's not like they are going to stop... They don't read our forum, they just create a thread and leave.

Hey this time they weren't hawking anything. I found this one entertaining. It made me go out and sit on the bike and make zoom zoom sounds. And of course I wanted to add volumes to each item on the list. Time to plan a trip!
